New Member, 13 Week Old Puppy. Looking for advice!

Hi!

I've recently added a new member to my family, He "Odysseus aka Ody" is 13 weeks old now and is weighing in at 15lbs. The breeder I had purchased him recommends Nutrisource Puppy (Medium/Small)  and that's what we've kept him on the 3 weeks since we've picked him up. 3 cups a day. I understand that the best food is a grain free food. I can't seem to find any puppy food that specifies that it is "Grain Free". So I assume this is only once Bulldogs reach their full growth 12-13 Months. Is that correct?

Should we keep him on Nutrisource puppy or switch him to something like one of Natural Balance's puppy formulas?

We also have a 7 Year Old Husky, "Oreo" which the two love to play. Occasionly Ody will sneak to his bowl and grab some of his food. Maybe a handfull of morsals. Which happens to be Blue Wilderness : Salmon (Grain Free). Since then I've noticed that Ody has broken out in Hives slightly and his stool has become rather soft.  Is this because it is pretty high in protein?

Here is a picture I took today at lunch just for you guys!

Thanks,

Bogus

12 week old Kippah loves her food

We give her Castor and Pullox Organix Puppy Food.  She eats about 2 cups a day, we feed her 3 times a week and she gets all she wants per feeding in a 15 minute period (breeders suggestion for this technique)

I searched quite a bit for a grain free and corn free puppy food, they are not easy to find.  Petco and Petsmart both carry this brand.  Here are the main ingredients:

Organic Chicken, Chicken Meal, Organic Peas, Organic Barley, Chicken Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Citric Acid), Organic Brown Rice, Organic Millet, Organic Flaxseed, Pea Protein, Natural Chicken Flavor

Kippah is doing very well on it, she gains a pound a week, and has a great coat.  Any food sneak could cause the soft poo issue, even if it is a good food just simply the change to their system could cause that.  But I dont know about the skin irritation being caused by a quick stolen bite.

We dont let Kippah have access to our kitchen, where the other dogs food is located.  In fact we spend alot of time out on the front porch so we just feed her out there which makes it easy to get her out to potty in just a few minutes after she eats. We have been very blessed with potty training, but I dread winter coming.....she is JUST a little stubborn and might decide she is not going down the steps off the porch!

You feed your dog three times a week??

I think you've got a typo in your advice.

Bulldogs growing

Bulldogs tend to reach their full height at about 1 1/2 years, then stop growing up and start growing out, widening and getting move bulldoggie until they area bout 2 1/2 years old.

By the way, your puppy is absolutly adorable.

OH my word! 3 x's a day!

If I fed her three times a week I would not need dog food, she would eat us in our sleep!

Congrats!!!

What a cute baby!!

I don't recommend puppy food for Bulldog puppies. Puppy food usually has too much protein for large boned breeds. High levels of protein can increase bone growth at too fast of a rate.

It's great your looking into a grain free premium food. Bullies definitely do best on grain free diets.
Natural Balance is an example of a all life stages well balanced food that is grain free and can be given to a pup thru adulthood.

Congrats again on your new family member!!!

Must... not....give...in.... must...stay.....strong ... must

MUST HAVE PUPPIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS

There, I let it out :)  your pups are precious, sorry that i can't assist with your questions though, but I had to welcome you :)

My Boys

Didn't do too good on the fish kibble you mentioned.  Or any other dog food for that matter and they are eating raw now, It's a thought for the future.

They got to where they didn't want to even get up off the sofa to eat the Bison kibble of the same type.

Loose poo can be overfeeding.  The fish might cause the pimples as it did in my boys too. I  bet listerine would clear up the pimples on the chin.

I believe Bulldogs grow for almost 3 years, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You also don't want them to grow too fast by overfeeding them.  The amount on the bag that's suggested seemed kinda high to me.

I bet listerine would clear up the pimples on the chin.

Depending what your price

Depending what your price range is, Royal Canine has an awesome breed-specific chow for Bullys. They have it for the puppy and adults. Tank has done GREAT on it! It has specific vitamins to help with growth and joints. And it DEFINITELY helps with gas. I know the adult bully breed 25lbs bag is around $42.00, depending where you buy it. But off all the types we've tried, it's worked the best. (The plus is, it is made a little bit larger to help with the puppy griping the food, so you don't end up with drooly kibble bits around your floor) ;D

I also have a 13 week old

I am currently feeding her 1 1/2 cups twice a day of Pro Plan puppy. In a couple of weeks I'll start switching her slowly to adult food. I'm currently feeding my adults California Natural but I'm thinking about switching to Acana. Either way, I usually don't keep Bulldog puppies on puppy food after 3 1/2-4 months of age.
