*insert sad face*
I realize it's only been a full 2wks since we picked up Miss Amelia and gave her a forever home but boy howdy does she need some manners.
Her former owner said she had a "couple" of bad habits but, of course, forgot to include the other six or seven. Gah!
We knew she had no real structure ie, rough, rough play - even if you try to redirect with toys.
But she's a shoe chaser/diver/biter; an enormous jumper (this was actually the only bad habit mentioned), barely knows her name which we are working on with tasty treats. Growls if you are sharing a chair and have to move her the least little bit - which has resulted in her loss of chair privileges a few times already. Sulks .. good Lord she sulks when she doesn't get her way. LOL
Is this just part of the Terrible Twos?
We are working daily on walking on a harness, stopping and rewarding when she returns to our feet & sits calmly.
We are working daily on 'Off' for people and things. She jumps against the TV cabinet even over a cartoon animal. Sheesh.
We are working daily on "No Bite" and redirection with a toy. But when she gets wound up, she's just a wrecking machine on hands, calves, and crotches,.
Any words of wisdom?
We do allow her to play off leash, chasing toys, etc. and rewarding her with a small treat when she comes when called.
She is something else and we love her to bits .. but I'm hoping she'll settle down a bit with time :)
Take heart!
Sounds like you are doing WONDERFUL!
Aww....hang in there!!! I am sooooo
happy she has a good, furever home now with you! I don't have any words of wisdom; especially since you are dealing with a precious 2-year-old gal who's still
adjusting to her new family and home. I'll bet she WILL calm down once she's more settled in!!! Maybe
you could find some helpful websites/ youtube videos to help?
....
....Us bulldog lovers already know they're stubborn----hee hee---some
more than others!!! It was NOT easy training our 2 as puppies, and even now, oooooh, they can be
so stubborn about certain things ! Since we started fostering, we can REALLLLY relate to what
you're dealing with, since they come from such diverse backgrounds, and none of us has
any idea what they've been through/ how they were with their orginal owners, etc.
Keep posting here so that we can help / send you (( hugs )) of support !!! There are a few
people here that I know will give you GREAT advice, if they see your post! I hope they do!
((( hugs )))) Hang in there!!!!
