Here is a good reminder why a good bulldog vet is so important. A good friend of mine had a nice bulldog puppy from her first litter. She was going to show him but realized he needed nare/palate surgery. She had the surgery completed along with a neuter and placed him with her son as a pet. He had started to have a slight irritation to his one eye so he took him for an exam. The vet who did the exam (different than the vet clinic than who performed original surgery) came up with a huge list of surgeries that needed to done to this poor dog. First they said they would need to do his nares and palate. In addition to that they would have to remove wrinkles above his eyes, remove part of the nose rope, and do entropian surgery in both eyes. I have never heard of so much surgery being recommended for one dog in my twenty years+ of being involved with bulldogs. The original surgery was done within the last six months. He is not even two years old. Not any of the surgeries recommended by the new vet were ever mentioned by the original vet clinic.(Original vets are very good with bulldogs). Needless to say this dog will not be going back to this vet. Just scares me to think what would happen to someone's dog who didn't have someone to call for help and information!

it's scary what they want to do to bulldogs. We took one of ours to the vet clinic that's within walking distance of our house for vaccinations and they wanted to do all kinds of stuff to him. We wouldn't go there for anything but shots.
Very true...

Remove the nose rope..that's insane. Too many vets look at bulldogs and see dollar signs, it's a shame.

That was my opinion too! I think I almost dropped the phone when I heard what they wanted to do! My advice was run not walk out of that place and don't look back! Such a shame!
I was told that my girl had severe hip issues...

When Sophia was a tiny puppy, the vet I used told me she had severe hip displaysia and it would be surgical by the time she was a year old. I immediately out her on glucosamine, and at one year she was fine. No surgery, and I wouldn't have allowed it anyways!! Vets see mucho bucks when they look at a bulldog. Thankfully I knew better and never went back to that vet again.
glad your friend had you to tell her to RUN!!!
