He had pneumonia a few weeks ago and now he has a horrible hacking cough that he can't shake. He takes 3 pain meds for his back and can barely get up and down. Our vet said that the only way to get to the bottom of this cough is to put him under and take a look, but she doesn't think he would survive anesthesia. He is one month shy of 12 and he's had a good life. As soon as he lets us know he's ready, we will take him in.
Always a difficult time. Oliver will let you know.
It's always a little comforting knowing they have lived a happy and good life.
I'm so sorry to read this......
the hardest decision to ever make. Our vet always says when the bad days outweigh the good - still not a comforting thought. My prayers are with you during this very difficult time. Please give him a big kiss from me. He has, for sure led the best life he could have ever asked for with you.

Aw, I'm sorry Kathy.
I hate age:-(. My old Getman Shepard girl just lost her fight 11 days ago, though the decision was hard, it was right for her. I will be praying for you during this sad time.

Sorry to hear that Amy...
Making the decision is the hardest thing we have to do. Ollie was very sick, coughing all night long, losing control of his functions, couldn't lay down or get up without pain because of his back, but he was so happy to be going to the vet's office and it was just heartbreaking to know what was coming. It needed to be done though and he and your girl are at peace now.
So very sorry to hear this.
we love you Oliver!! hugs to you all..........
