It's getting warmer out and I am wondering about overheating. What is too hot? I was thinking 75 and higher, but am not sure what the threshold is. Today it is 81 and varies between sunny and partly cloudy. We have the windows open, but should we have the AC on? What about walks? Also, we plan to take our bully to the cabin before it gets too hot. There is no AC at the cabin. What would be too hot at that point? We were planning on wetting her and providing a lot of water during the trip and keeping her in the shade. We also were planning on letting her splash in the shallow water. Thanks!
A lot depends on where you live...
we are in Phoenix where there is little humidity, so our guys do okay when it's hot (80 to 90). We let them out for a few minutes at a time and they aways wind up wanting to sunbathe on the patio pavers. When the heat starts going over 100, we make sure they are only outside to take care of business and then right back in. Walks are short and very early in the morning. We do take our guys to the mountains for a lot of the summer and they really enjoy the cooler weather. If you live in an area with higher humidity then you have to be careful even at lower temps.
Some humidity
We get some humidity. It can go up higher or stay minimal depending. We have been keeping an eye on her and having plenty of water available. If it's high humidity we make sure the fan or AC is on.
We live in a hot location with some humidity.
I don't let my girl out except for potty breaks in anything over 80 degree temps. It is too easy for them to get overheated and then get distressed in their breathing. I keep our air conditioner running in the house when temps get over 80 and I have to close windows to keep it cool inside.
I would be very cautious taking my bully anywhere that air conditioning isn't available. If your dog does get overheated, putting cool water on it isn't going to be enough to get the body temp back down if you don't have a cool room for them. Even in shade it can be too warm for a bully, and remember that though the temps may fall in the evening, the ground temperature is higher and that is where you dog is nearest to! Especially on any pavement at all, it will me much warmer down low near the ground than in the air above, so you may have a nice walk in the evening in mind, but consider what the ground temps are and make your decision to walk your dog based on that information!

Thanks
Lots of information in this one, thanks. We have been keeping an eye on her and having plenty of water available. If it's high humidity or hot we keep the fan or AC on. Windows are open if it's lower humidity or warm, not hot. She's doing really well.
If your cabin has electricity...
maybe you could get a window a/c unit to cool one room when it gets too hot for her.
Great Idea
Great idea! I think we will have fans or an AC unit for her. We definately aren't going to take her up once it starts to get really warm. We are only going to take her when it's more mild and have plenty of water and shady spots.
Always Hot
Our experience in Manila is if you feel hot then it's going to be hotter for your babies. Shades or going swimming is not always enough because after that they will still need to face the heat. We have electric fans and we cover them with wet towels with a spray of lavander to increase the moisture in the house. Also, we open the AC during the hottest part of the day.

Thanks for the info
Hmm lavender spray. I haven't heard of that one before. I will look into it.
