Help with bulldog bleeding

We just adopted a bulldog today. She was spayed about a week and a half ago. We noticed that she had some slight discharge from her vagina- slimy and purple in color. We noticed it twice and I had to wipe her. Now the blood has turned a bright red and she is bleeding more. Little drops and everytime I wipe her there the tissue is bright red. She was not in heat when she was spayed. We have a call in to the vet, just waiting to hear back. Any advice or experience with this?

I know you can expect 'some' bleeding after spay..however..

I dont know how much, or for how long :(     Sorry I'm not more help :(

I am glad you called the vet

No--there should be no bleeding. The uterus is gone. It is not like a c-section where there would still be bleeding. There is nothing there to bleed. See the vet. Something is wrong

Thank you

It was a sleepless night waiting for the vet to open. They said it is either a vaginal infection, which can be treated with antibiotics, or it is an infection in the uterin stump(??) which would require sugery :( We did a bunch of cultures and an x-ray. Also started her on clavamox. Hopefully it is just an infection that can be easily treated. Poor girl- new home, new family and she is stuck with this! We will keep you updated!

Happend to us

When our pup Ruby got spayed she started bleeding the next night. After tests and an ultrasound they determined her urine had a high specific gravity. So we started giving her canned food mixed with water and I gave her special "Ruby Cubes" (ice cubes made from broth and water) to hydrate the heck out of her. It took some time (about a week) for the bleeding to stop completely. And so far no reoccurances. I hope it is a simple solution for your sweet girl.
