I haven't been on a whole lot lately. We have been adjusting to Texas, and I'd say we're feeling settled in now. Fatboy loves the place we're living in because the community has a dog park. So far he's made friends with a German Shepherd, an Australian Shepherd, and a cute little mixed doggy. All three are still pups. They know each other at the dog park, and it's cute to see him interact with his friends.
Question for those who vacation without your doggys: how did you find your sitter? I am leaving in January for a week and cannot take Fatboy with us. I initially booked a sitter through Rover, but am paranoid after seeing in the news what happened to Lola the bulldog in Kansas. The family did not use Rover, but the company they used seems to operate very similar to it. The sitter I booked has about 52 5-star ratings, but she would be coming into my home to care for Fatboy....I think I may be paranoid and overthinking it all. But what it comes down to is she is not knowledgeable of the breed. Plus I've only met her once, so I really don't know who she is at all. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Here is some puppy spam, and a little something extra at the end. Enjoy!
On our way to visit my aunt in Dallas. He's not too keen on car rides.
He kept snuggling up next to me, and I thought it was so cute until I realized he just wanted my spot on the couch.
Too lazy to even care XD
Making sure no one takes his ball while he naps.
Time for bed!
Mama and her baby. The mama was very friendly and wagged her tail when she saw people, but it's not safe for her and baby to be around so we try to stay out of her way.

I remember Fatboy!
As for your question about dog/house sitters... I was in a similar situation. I had just moved to this area and was without any sitters or kennels I was comfy with (where I lived before, I worked in a kennel and felt comfortable leaving my dogs there. Plus, one of the kennel girls was willing to stay at my house to watch the cats and bring in the mail - win win for me!). I tried a service I had found on-line (bonded, insured, etc), but I didn't feel comfy with the woman who ended up cat-sitting for me. I kept wondering if she had actually gone to the house daily, and if she was poking around in my stuff!
One of my best friends suggested I call the local Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall. I'm not a Witness, but I have known a few through my friend. And, while they don't all graduated with an "A", I find them to be hardworking, honest, and reliable. Their thing is that Jehovah is watching and judging them at all times, so they do their best. I left a message on the answering machine at the Hall and explained that I was looking for a brother or sister who had animal experience and would be willing to pet/house sit for me. The elders of the hall passed along my information to one of the sisters and she called me in a few days. She has been a God-send (literally! lol). We agreed on a price for her services. She lives 10 minutes away, and she has even gone into the house for me, if I get tied up, to take Eldo our for a potty break. I didn't feel as though I had to lockup and hide all my valuables and important papers, either.

Good idea!
I will definitely look into this. I appreciate it!

I'm glad I read this....what a
great idea :-) And, not that it's funny at all----but I had to smile when you mentioned the other lady possi-bully not
actually going to your house, AND going through your stuff----GAH! Scary! It reminded me of that nosey neighbor
on "Bewitched".....I think her name was Mrs. Kravitz ?! LOL

Hi you guys! It's so good to see you:-)
That Fatboy is absolutely adorable:-). What a riot:-).
Where are you in Texas? We are west of Dallas about 70 miles.
Amy and Sophia
We live in Austin now. TX is nothing like how I imagined it
would be. The Hill Country area is so beautiful. Before I moved, I thought TX was going to be nothing but dirt and desert. There are some places like that for sure, but it also has a lot of beautiful areas as well. So far my favorite town is Fredericksburg. I had to go on a business trip there last month and had fun checking out all the little shops. There was this store there called Dogology where I bought new dog toys for a Fatboy. I face timed with Fatboy as soon as I got to the hotel to show him what got him. He was so confused and excited at the same time. It was so funny :)

I'm glad you like Austin!!! It is a
great city, isn't it? One of our nephews lives there and loves it :-) We used to live in San Antonio and just LOVE that city,
plus, both sides of our families live there, so we go once or twice a year. ONLY thing we don't like is the TRAFFIC in San
Antonio
gotten sooo bad! Omg, and driving through AUSTIN traffic-----you have our sympathies !!! Maybe you've been to this
PAWsome restauarnt already---but if you haven't heard of/ been to TRUDY's----omg, you've GOTTA go! YUMMY!!! :-)
...
;;;;
You mentioned Fredericksburg---ahhh, yes! Hubbs and I have many happy memories of that sweet town !! We especially
loved going to Octoberfest there!! :-) I don't know if y'all are fans of those types of events, and/or maybe you went this year,
but in New Braunfels, (about a half hour from you?)----they have WURSTFEST every October / maybe November? ANd it
is a BLAST !!!!!! Omg, we went every. single. year !!!!!!!!! Lots of bands, dancing, FOOD!! Omg, we miss the apple
and cherry strudel !!

Hello Fatboy!! I don't live in Texas.
I do follow Lone Star Dog Ranch on Facebook. They are a boarding and daycare facility in Anna, Texas. The place looks absolutely amazing and I wish I has something like it near me. They are very familiar with bulldogs, frenchies, bordeauxs and pretty much everything else.
I just checked out their website. That is a pretty nice
facility! I wish we had that near me too.
Fatboy aka Stinky :)
We boarded ours with our Bulldog Vet
*IF* something happend -- they are at the Vet -- and our Vet is a Bully Specialist :)
and YES I REMEMBER FATBOY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! its been too long :)
I just recently returned myself
Last steps taken May 26, 2014 -- Been rolling along ever since . . . .
Rick's idea is wonder-bull !!! We have also
boarded at a Vet's office---ours also happens to be a bulldog specialist, but even if
your vet wasn't, having FatBoy with a vet right there would give you peace of mind !!! :-)
P.S....I dunno if you've had a chance to read the NOVEL I posted to you below...LOL..
((Hugs)) to you and that cutie !!!
Our sweet Archimedes "MEATY" Bones (or as we say...boneSHHH!) ---born 11/28/08---- our first bullllyyyy!!!

aww......SOO wonder-bull to see you and Fatboyyyyy!!!
Wow, it's been a long time! OMG, I forgot how adorrra-bull himz is !!! Glad you're settling in.
I WISH I had advice for you about the sitting----Hubbs and I know EXACTLY how you feel; it's so scary
to trust ANYbully; even if they're pawsome doggie people, we all know bullies have unique needs! :-)
CHECKLIST:
1. CPR
2. How to intervene with choking
3. If Fatboy has those gagging issues like lots of bullies, make sure they know about squirting lemon juice into the
back of his throat
4. How far away is the nearest 24-hour Emergency Vet ?
.5. the TEMPERATURE issues with bulldogs!--Even in WINTER---make SURE they know that overplaying,
overexcitment can also overheat them!
6. Give them a bottle of Benadryl and tell them exactly how many to give him (one mg, per pound!)
We know this because Meaty gets THREE Benadryl for his weight (79 pounds) annnnnd,,,,trust me....
it has saved his LIFE three times already!!!!!!!! Yes, it really has! THREE Times, something has bit him,
his face swelled SO quickly, and before we threw him in the car to rush to the Emergency Vet, I gave
him 3 Benadryl. The last time was SO scary----although the Benadryl was given, he was still
jussst starting to go into respiratory distress----Thank God we made it to the vet on time for
the injection (Dexamethasone) ......Unforunately, the 24-7 emerg. vet is
a half an hour from us.....THAT is why it's always been so scary---AND, it's ALWAYS happened
in the evenings, when the vet down the street is closed....Stupid bugs!!! :-(...
....
Or, even BETTER---if he's prone to that and/ or you reallyyy don't want to have to worry---you
could give the sitter a doggie Epi pen / Dexamethasone injection. Our vet
actually sold a syringe full of it to us after the first time....(and of course, the needle was
separate, and in a safe, sterile cap. ...... It was wonder-bull to
always have that with us! And, after hearing that Epi pens have recently gone sky-high in
price, you could get that medication for WAY less than your vet. If you and/or your
sitter don't know how to give an intramuscular injection, they can teach you...
...
Wow, that was a novel....LOL ! Anndd.....I have to say THANK YOU, because this
reminded me that we need to buy some of that medication from our vet again :-)
He (the vet) told us they lost one of their personal bulldogs after he was bit by
a centipede....He and his wife RUSHED the poor buy to his office to get the Dexamethasone,
but he died on the way....in just a few MINUTES :-( I thank God all the time that
Meaty didn't die like the vet's did !! :-(

So good to see you guys again! Fatboy is as cute as ever. Thanks for stopping by!!

We found our pet sitter at our vet's office...
she was one of the techs and she abssolutely loves bulldogs. We've had her for 15 years now and she does an excellent job. Last fall when we were in Europe, Chester had gastroenteritis and she took him to the vet and got him through it, we love her. Ask at your vet's office and see if anyone does it.
Same suggestion as Kathy
Our vet does not provide boarding services, but he recommended a service to us. She is a wonderful young woman and pet sitting, walking, errands, etc. is her only business. Maude and Gus just love her and she takes great care of them.
p.s. I love Fatboy -- so glad to see him again!!
