Hello everyone! Question about the vet list

Sorry I am posting on the general forum.  I kind of need a quick answer.

Does anyone know how the vet list was put together?  I assumed it was because the vets were specialized in brachycephalic breeds.  However I did go to one vet on the list and could tell they hardly ever see bulldogs (Fatboy was treated as a novelty).  We moved here to Austin in February, and I'm needing to find another vet already.  I can't tell if Fatboy is having phlegm issues due to allergy season, or if he is experiencing aspiratipn pneumonia.

Also, is it common practice for vets to charge a new dr's visit fee when they are doing a follow up?  Dr. B in CA never charged a second office fee when I had to bring Fatboy in for one.

I'm not sure about the vet list.

I used to go to Dr. B, but got tired of the drive and wait.  The vet I go to now does charge for rechecks at reduced price.  I am OK with it since I feel comfortable with them and my dogs.  The Bulldog specialist in Orange County that I also use, he does not charge for rechecks.  I did a quick check for the Austin area...granted I have never been there or know distance from where you are located.  Sunbury Vet Clinic Address: 12407 N Mopac Expy #400, Austin, TX 78758

Phone:(512) 255-8387

Hours:

Open today · 7AM–6PM

says many Frenchies and Bulldogs are clients and the Dr has owned both.  Good reviews also   Good luck with Fatboy.  I hope you can find a good Dr for him.

thank you so much!

This is very close to me!  Everything in Austin is relativly close and has a minimal drive time, but this is because I'm so used to SoCal drive time and traffic lol  My boss drives 20 minutes, in "traffic", to get to work and people can't believe he drives that long lol  It's so funny how people here react to traffic.  LA taught me to be an agressive driver. I probably look like a crazy person when I go places lol

Thank you for the information!  this has made my day.  I will make sure to call tomorrow morning.

Vet list..

That list was put together a long time ago & hasn't been updated in a while, I apologize.  My suggestion is call your local bulldog rescue, as we know the best ones for bullies. Can't answer about a new patient charge, every vet office works differently.

You know I don't know why this did not occur to me

The rescue should have been my first thought.  Thank you! :D

I think the vet list was originally...

put together from people who had used them and would recommend them.  I'm sure some of them have gone out of business or maybe turned out to be not so good.  I know we have switched vets several times until we found one we like here in Phoenix.  Your local rescue could probably recommend someone.  We lucked into a great vet when we had an emergency and took our guy to a vet practically next door and it turned out she owned a bulldog herself.

Don't you love when things turn out like this?

I will be contacting the local rescue here tomorrow.  I'd also like to get into contact with them for other resources as well.  My husband and I now live in the allergy capital of the US (at least this is what we were told).  I want to be as prepared as possible to keep the Fats comfortable.

Vet List

I help with the vet list here in Austin Texas. My Vet is on that List. Dr Warner at Brodie Animal Hosptial. I interview two Vets when I was having problem with Loulou. Dr Stried Retired but Dr Warner has and owns Bulldogs since he was a child. That is the reason he is Vet. If your Austin Texas then I would take Fat Boy to Him. But you must ask for him only or you get any Vet there.
