Flying with bulldog

My husband and I have a four year old English bulldog. The problem is we need to get him to Hawaii but we can't find a airline that will fly him. We really need help finding a way to get him across the pond.

Many airlines won't allow any brachycephalic dogs any longer.

Th.e risk is so high and then this time of year is even worst.  I saw this company that offers flying dogs in the cabin with you, it is pretty expensive.  I have never used them or know anyone who has, but it may be an option for you to check out.  The name is Dogtravel Company.  I hope you can figure out something.

Private pilot?

I don't know if you can find one going to Hawaii, but some people who fly their own planes will fly dogs. However, the trip to Hawaii is very long. It would be hard on any dog. Are you staying only a short while or are you going to be moving there?

Moving

We will be there for a few years.

Have you researched taking a dog to Hawaii?!

They have very strict rules for allowing dogs there. Make sure you have all your information necessary to even have a dog taken there before you make any plans...

Perhaps you should go by boat.

At least one of you could go by boat and keep the bulldog company.

We moved with our Dreadnought to Hawaii

There are no ships that have kennel facilities that go to Hawaii.  The only ship that has kennel facilites is the QM2...no help for a trip to Hawaii.  My best advice is to drive to San Francisco and fly Hawaiian Air.  They do not have restrictions and flying out of SF means the weather will be cooler.  Take the very first flight out of SF...I think ours was maybe 6:00am???  When you arrive in Hawaii, the weather should be OK.  make sure you have started the quarantine process.  This is critical because you DO NOT want your bulldog in the quarantine facility.  It is dirty, hot and gross.  They do not take good care of the dogs and it is not air conditioned.  You can't fly with your dog in the cabin on any flights into Hawaii.  They are really strict about it.

Have you started the process yet?  You will need to get a titer test several months before your trip.  The timing is pretty specific, but I can't remember what it is off the top of my head.

Are you military?  If so, you might be able to fly Space A which means you might be able to fly with your bulldog.  We took a Space A flight into Travis AFB from Pearl Harbor and Dreadnought was put into cargo.  Cargo on this particular plane was the forard section of the aircraft right next to the pliot.  Perfect!

It has been several years since we did the trip.  It was nerve wracking and so stressful, but it can be done if you make sure you are organized and plan well.
