My husband and I lost our amazing bulldog of 11 years in June of 2014. When are now ready to get another one. We are looking for an English or Olde English. When we got our Basil, he was 8 weeks old, which wasn't a problem as I worked in a vet hospital and could bring him to work with me. We would like to get male,1 1/2 years and younger, as we need a dog who can be at home on weekdays for 6-7 hours.
This is where I could use some advice. I know that breeders sometimes have older puppies that come back due to someone not being able to care for them, or whatever reason. We are in Middlesex county in MA and have no problem driving a few hours for the right family member.
I have contacted an area akc club last week to see if they knew of anyone in the area, and have yet to hear back. I have tried contacting the local MA bulldog club, but all email addresses get bumped back to me, so I am not sure their contact info is up to date.
I have looked at rescues, but the process can be difficult to say the least. We also have a cat, and most up for adoption do not seem to be good with cats.
Has anyone been through this before, and how did you find a breeder? Did you contact multiple ones individually in your area? Is there somewhere I can contact a few breeders at one time? I am very wary of want ads, with unfortunately many disreputable people out there.
I realize this may take time, and that is not a problem as we want to find the proper fit for all.
Any advice on how to reach out is most appreciated. It has now been over 12 years since I have looked, and am feeling very new to this all over again.
Thanks in advance!
HI:-)
I can't really help with a breeder referral, but hang on and I know you will get some answers over the next few days from those who DO know breeders:-) Best of luck!

Not all rescues are difficult
We have a rescue dog. Of couse the head of bulldog rescue knows us, which helped, but we could prove that we could provide a good home and had a background in bulldogs. Good luck Let us know hwat happens.
That's exactly right Stephanie.
And with so many bullies in rescue right now, it would be a great place to start looking.

Have you try
FB for breeder in your area. I would try that but then I would get to know your breeder before I brought any bulldogs.
these days so many people just breed and you don't know the health of these bullies. Me I would try Rescue you never know what you are getting but these Bulldogs needs homes and Love. You could try to get to know the rescue and sometimes that help for them to let you adopted one. Good luck.
