Antler chew questions

These are very expensive chews but I found some at half price and gave them to both Quigley and Margie. Well, they LOVED them and spent a few hours in chewing bliss. However, they go through them quickly. It's almost time to throw them out a after only four days. Do any of you have experience with your bulldogs and the antlers? How long do they last for you?

Are you using deer or elk antlers?

I only give elk antlers they do not splinter.  They are expensive but they seem to last a very long time with my 3.  The antlers also have a grading system to determine how long the antlers have been out in the elements.  Make sure they are at least Grade A or Grade B.

Thank you...Almost eaten.

I didn't know about the grading system, but I will look next time. I don't know if they were deer or elk since I tossed the packaging. They've had them a week, a medium and a larger one, and they are almost gone. But, they LOVE them. They have not splintered, just worn away.

I would try again and make sure it is definitely an elk antler.

They say elk antlers are less dense and better for gnawing on.  Deer antlers are more dense thinner and have a tendency to snap in half.  They also can cause a slab fracture to the tooth because they are so hard.
