Urate bladder stones removed

Hi!

My Lily had a bunch of bladder stones removed and now the vet said she needs to be on prescription food for the rest of her life?  They recommended Royal Canin SO for urinary problems to prevent more stones from forming...  Any thoughts on this food?  I read it constipated some dogs.  Wondering if I can just give her fresh food and cook for her myself.....

Thoughts?  THANKS!

Food for Stones

Sampson had stones about 5 years ago.  He has eaten Hills Science Diet U/D ever since.  It's $80 for 30 lbs.  For a couple of years afterward we supplemented his food with eggs, cottage cheese, and canned fruit and vegetables to offset the cost of the food.  But for the past couple of years he has gotten just the food.  He doesn't get to eat as much because he is 10 years old and not nearly as active.  Anyway, he has never had any issues with the dog food.

Homemade dog food

I started making food for my bullys and I have seen such a difference! Makes you really wonder just these companies are doing to the food? I stick with the basics......rice, meat and veggies. I also add a vitamin and calcium. their coat is so nice now, ear wax going away. I'm cooking them a turkey today lol!!
