Sarge is 13 months old. Has dificulty with acid reflux and vomitiing. His biggest issue is with water. Always throws it up. Lots of bile and foam. Constant! We have to limit his water intake so he can keep food down. Vets have already done x-rays and barium dye test. Next they want to scope him or do expensive test where they feed him and x-ray his food as it travels through his body. We give him prilosec once a day and we were told to get him up in the morning and not let him slep in too late as that can cause too much acid to build up in his stomach. We're exhausted and feel helpless. Doesn't matter if I make him chicken and rice, change his food, give digestive enzymes, etc. Has anyone experienced this with their bulldog?

My male
throws up his water if its too cold.. I put room temp water in the dish all the time.. if he eats snow or an ice cube it comes right back up too... My vet also suggested that I put his water dish on a box so it's elevated somewhat...
Thanks
Always room temp water and we do need to try and elevate his bowls. You're the 2nd person who has mentioned that. Thanks!

I'm assuming with all the testing they've done...
that they checked to see if he has elongated palate? That caused those kinds of problems with our Chester, he finally had to have surgery to shorten it, no problem with throwing up water or bile since then. Is his breathing loud, does he snore loudly?
Sarge's Test
Kathy, never heard them mention elongated palate. Yes, he breaths very loud and snores even louder! We are going to have him looked at by another vet, 2nd opionon nd I will be so sure to mention this. We are overwhelmed and feel terrible for the guy...I appreciate you mentioning this.

Absolutely find a bulldog knowledgeable vet right away!
If your vet didn't suggest elongated palate, you need to really find a vet who knows this breed better!! Best of luck, and if you want, there is a list of Bulldog vets by state on the main page.

Yes, do find another vet...
that knows bulldogs. There is a list on the home page by state or someone on here can recommend someone if you tell us your general area. Chester had palate surgery and his was an emergency. Went to the park one day and he did his usual sniffing and then had trouble breathing because his throat swelled. His symptoms beforehand were throwing up foam, throwing up when he drank water and throwing up portions of his food. We had no idea it was a palate problem until that happened. The vet will need to sedate him in order to take a good look, which means nothing to eat or drink for a while before the visit. If it turns out to be palate related, the surgery will help enormously. Chester never urps anything now and has a lot more energy. When we adopted Jessa a few months ago, I could tell right away she had a problem and we had hers done too. Let us know what you find out!
Agree on getting a 2nd opinion from a bulldog vet
My Bosco had the same thing - consistently throwing up his food and water. It was terrible, he looked so sad and miserable. It was his elongated soft palette. He had the surgery and it was a life changer for him. He no longer throws up his food and water. His snoring is better. It has made a world of difference for his quality of life.
Good luck and let us know what you find out!
Sarge's Stomach Issues
WOW, seriously can't thank you all enough for your input on this issue. We have decided to see a new vet right away and pursue his elongated palate being looked at. His symptoms are spot on and not once has the first vet ever mentiond this. Sarge is wore out and just exhausted from not being able to hold anything down on a regular basis. We have spent a lot of money on tests so far and nothing has come of the results. I agreet that we need a vet that is experienced with this breed. Again thank you so much!!!!!!!!!

Please let us know..
what you find out! Wishing the best for him.
