Winston is six months old. He gets these bumps every couple weeks. They start out about 3/16" of an inch in diameter, he scratches sometimes. After about 5 or 6 days, they shrink up, get hard and fall off. He seems to get more every time they break out. Anyone know what this might be? He eats Blue buffalo basic for puppies with alergies. It has turkey and potatoes as the first ingredients. My confused Vet says "you may never find out what it is" Gave hime anti biotics to see if it was some kind of bacterial infection. It wasn't.
What did your vet give him?
Simplicef is usually good for skin problems. Did he do a scrap and look at it under a microscope to see what's going on? Does he see a lot of bulldogs? I think that's pretty lame to just shrug it off like that. That being said, it's possible that the turkey isn't sitting well with him, maybe switch to a different protein (look to keep it 25% or under though) such as salmon or whitefish or even duck. Also, Blue has had several recalls which makes it a little suspect. We use Fromm which is a great grain free food, also Zignature is wonderful for allergies. Earthborn Holistic is good also but some are high in calories. Also, at 6 months old he is ready to be transitioned to adult food, so it's a good time to switch brands or protein if you want to.
What he gave him was....
Dephalxin is what he was given. He seems to get the breakouts whenever I let him walk the trails with me behind our house. I got some shampoo that is supposed to help. I am switching his food to Zignature for puppies and all ages. It says it has fish as the protien source. I hate to see him suffering and scratching. I may try and find a Vet that has more experience with Bulldogs. I have not found a single one in our area.
Zignature is a great food...
we feed it to two of our guys. The other two are on Fromm Weight management for reasons we won't discuss. Did you look on the home page? There is a list of vets by state and city. What city are you in? Maybe someone on here knows someone. We were so fortunate, we found a vet that has 2 bulldogs of her own and is within walking distance of our house.
Far far away
The only one I could find, is over two hours from here. I'll see how the food switch goes, then go from there. Thanks!
