Mouth pain

Hi my english bulldog is 6 years old and is experiencing something new to me. This is my 3rd bulldog baby. Last Saturday he was playing with his bone and screamed a high pitch scream, I never heard before. After that he continued to make that sound. By Monday I called the Vet and took him in and I noticed his cherry eye had started to pop out. The vet sedated him and did xrays and checked his mouth. All was good when I picked him up his eye was very swollen. I took him right back to the vet to make sure it wasn't an allergic reaction. The vet said his eye looked infected, as it was now very red! They put him on antibiotics and a pain/inflammation medicine. His pain seems to be when he closes his mouth. I also had blood work done to rule out Masticatory Myositis! He is eating and drinking fine! Has anyone else had this problem with their bully??

Could be an abscessed tooth

That won't show up in an x-ray. One of our guys had one, took several visits/antibiotics before the vet discovered it quite by accident. The abscess was way up in the root of the tooth. The vet was doing an inspection, had to put the dog under, and when poking around, a tiny spot of blood appeared above the tooth. He extracted the tooth, apparently, it was terribly infected. A good flush cleaning and the dog was as good as new.

Good luck, I know my guy was in awful pain from it.

Let us know what you find out.

Definitely think it could be an abcess. You say he was chewing on a bone, could a small sliver of whatever he was chewing on gotten up against his gum, between the gum and a tooth? I'd look very closely at the back of his mouth, if it happens when he is closing his mouth, it could be lodged way back in where his jaw joint is....
