Meaty's large epidermoid cyst

Meaty's had this lump (about the size of a quarter in diameter, and about 1/2 inch high) on his upper back for quite

a while.  Vets have assessed a few times, no big deal---and they always love to tell us not to worry, they're common,

and NOT cancer!!!  I've done lots of reading about all the lumpies and bumpies our babies can get, so I was

never worried...

...

Since I had to take Sophie to the "Bully Whisperer" Vet last week, I figured I'd get a third opinion on Meaty's lump,

especially because it's gotten a bit bigger.  He said it was an epidermoid cyst, and aspirated a small amount

of gray-ish fluid...basically said it's "like a pimple"......

.....

We get home and I realize, wait----why didn't he go ahead and aspirate ALL of the fluid?  The lump is still

so hard, we wonder if it hurts poor Meaty?  So I call to see if I could put a warm pack on it, etc.....

Also, we've cleaned it a few times and gotten tiny bits of drainage, but I'm concerned because

I've been reading that trying to drain it could cause a bad infection......also,

they tend to recur..

,,,.....

Anybully have this happen? Did YOUR vet get all the fluid out?  Why do you think this vet

only took about about 2 ccs and said it was fine?  Ugh, when I got a call back, all the lady

said was that the vet said it's fine, don't do anything else to it, and that it was PROBABLY due to allergies, so

we might try another kibble again.....

...

Common sense tells us to just keep GENTLY cleaning the area, and we won't try to drain it.....(even

though, I admit, I would LOVE to clean it, apply a warm compress, and just let that thing DRAIN!!!)

We wonder if the pressure hurts our sweet guy?,,,I hate to say it, but altho this vet reallllly is a

bully specialist, I do wonder if we got him on a bad day...he seemed very busy and distracted, etc...

ugh!!!

Cyst

Porkie has the same type of cyst on her right shoulder for a couple of years. Our vet has drained it numerous times (gray/beige stuff). The last time he drained it, he remove about 20cc of fluid. It had been about 3 months since that last draining. He also chastised me for not bring her back sooner saying the cyst could rupture which would necessitate it's removal. I've been instructed to bring her in every 2 months for draining or sooner if needed. Just had it drained again this past month and the vet removed 10cc. My concern about the removal is Porkchop is 11 years old and it would mean a general anesthetic for the removal. I don't even want to think about that!

Thank you for the info....I wonder if that's what Meaty needs?

It seemed that draining it fully would be good, but I'm not a vet, so I didn't know...Now after what  your vet said,

that frightens me!  I guess it's time for a second opinion---AGAIN!!!  Awww,

I wouldn't wanna put Porkchop under anesthesia either...!!! Poor baby---((( hugs ))))

Prayers for Meaty and Porkchop

I have never had to deal with this, But I know I would freak out. Anything on their Body is a vet trip for sure. Seems to me they could drain more off of Meaty. I do wonder if the presser of it does cause him pain. I know you trust your vet. But you pay this man for your furkid heath I think I would just take him to another for a second opition. and let him drain it. Porkchop sweetheart I will pray for you being 11 years young I understand why momma said No just drain it. But Meaty is six now also Isn't He.  Even at six I would not let him go under if it could be just drain. Best wishes for the both of you.

Prayers

Thank you for your prayers for Porkie! Every prayer helps. At 11 years of age I know every day is another blessing. We had to have our Bubba Boy put down this past June due to cancer and can't even think about the possiblity of losing our Porkchop.
