Poor Meaty has been to the vet SO MANY times in his six years for his EAR.....The first few years, it
was ALWAYS the right ear, and the left was FINE. Lately, the right is fine, but the left would be constantly
yeasty, then sometimes it would be a bacterial infection, and sometimes it would get so bad, the canal
was almost closed, so he'd go on short-term Predisone. We tried MANY different foods, eliminated
certain things from his diet and treats, tried MANY different cleaners, etc, and at one point, took him three
times a week to the vet for cold-laser treatments... We recently took him to
a dermatologist and considered getting him tested for allergies; however, many of you already know
that even that doesn't always solve the problem...
....
...
I think we've FINALLY found the true answer....it's WARM weather and whatever allergens are in air....
AND, we HAVE to clean his ears at least twice a week and use this wonderful solution (KET Flush ===Ketoconazle-EDTA-Tris) from the Vet...
His previous vet is VERY, VERY bulldog knowledgeable, and we loved him; however, it got to be too far of a drive, and, he was very against
instilling liquids into the ears. Ever since winter came, we've cleaned the ear with a cloth, then instilled the solution,
and his ear canal is OPEN!!!!, and no more yeast, no more itching!!! Poor little guy has suffered SO much, we
are SO happy! ...
.....
...
Here are my QUESTIONS----
1. Have you had this with your bullies or other doggies? What do you do once it's warm again and the
ears get bad again? Or did a certain cleaning routine keep it from happening?...Or do you give
your babies allergy meds like Zyrtec when it's warm? (I've heard that works well
w/ bullies)...In the past, we'd give him Benadryl for flare-ups, and it helped...
....
2. The yellow yeast is GONE, but his ears DO stil have GUNK in them..it's dark brown, and sometimes
quite a bit, but at least he doesn't ITCH!!! .....Is it brown because of the KET flush? I've read that
brown ear drainage can be all kinds of things, of course, but I think it's the medication?...
....
THANK YOU, and feel free to share ANY other tips/ experiences....WOOOF!!! :)

Ear regimen
If you are sure it's the warm weather, I would just clean his ears every other day with Zymox. My boy had some major ear problems too all his life. His was from food allerigies. Believe it or not,I figured out he was allergic to flax seed which is in virturally every high end dog food! I make him a homemade diet now. Stick to what the dermatologist suggests. They are specialists in the ear department. Good luck!
Thank you for the advice....sorry your guy had major ear
issues, too!!! :(

Are you feeding grain free?
I do know that once we put Newman on a grain free diet, his tear stains and gunky tail and ears pretty much cleared up. We just have to wipe them out with the liquid cleaner once a week now and they are fine. We also use filtered water which is always worth a try.
Yes, grain-free for both babies!!! Meaty also has a deep tail
pocket, which luckily has NOT caused him any major problems like his ears. We clean his tail every 2-3 days, orelse he gets
itchy, but luckily it's not "gunky" like his ears ....just the usual stool and hair.....! And since you mentioned tear stains, he has
never had them until just a few months ago (he just turned 6)....I need to read more about them and what the story is....
