Limping ....what experiences have your furbabies had?

We're going to the vet in a few hours, but as we all know, it's good to hear lots of different experiences, especially if the vet finds nothing...I also like to ask other peeps because we've had something similar with Meaty TWICE---and it resolved on its own in a few days....(I was always thinking the worst---"OMG...ACL tear!!!  REad about 'em allll the time!!!".......Thank Goodness, that wasn't it.  Matter of fact, it's actually funny----one time Meaty couldn't bear ANY weight on one of his legs, so we RUSHED him to the Emergecy Vet late at night.....It's a 30-ish minute drive---by the time we arrived, Meaty was walking TOTALLY normally....LOL and Yipppee!!  Of cousre we STILL took him to be examined......it turned out to be "nothing"....hmmm....yet he could NOT bear weight at all, 30 minutes previously.........?? WEIRD!!!...

.....

......Sophie's  been limping for a few days. We were almost SURE it was a PAW/ NAIL issue, because her nails looked a little too long, (I felt

sooo guilty, thinking we had let them get too long....But NOPE, the groomer said her nails weren't actually LONG at all---but that they

were getting THICKER and curved, so it was tricky for them to trim.....they started with the regular clippers, then switched to grinding,

which made Sophie much calmer....they were sooo good with her! (takes two people with her and Meaty ---they just get too freaked

out !)  Wellll, no improvement! ...

.....

We've been doing warm water/ Epsom salt soaks a couple days, thinking it's a small irritation, grass burr, splinter???  But we cannot

SEE anything----the reason we were SURE it was a PAW issue (versus LEG/ FOOT tendon/ ligament/ bone) is because she would

WINCE very LOUDLY when we touched one of her paw pads......Anyway, the soaks and beeswax/ coconut oil also hasn't helped..

....

.....We're pretty sure now that it's NOT the  paw, so of course we want to vet to check her...poor baby!!!  :(   ..Anyhoo, like I said,

I just like to hear what your furbabies have experienced....I know there's SO many reasons she could be limping, and you

know how it is...sometimes the vets are honest and say "I just don't really know!"  ....We'll see.....Thanks..((( HUGS ))) to all of ya!

The problem with limping is...

xrays usually don't show anything.  They can tell an ACL tear by doing the drawer test and manipulating the back leg.  When CHester tore his ACL there was no doubt in my mind that's what it was, he could not put any weight on it and hopped on three legs.  He had a partial in the other leg and would walk slowly with a limp.  Muscle strains/sprains will usually heal in a few days with a lot of rest, outside on a leash, no furniture, beds, etc and confined to one spot.  If it's an interdigital cyst, preparation H will help, but you can see those between the toes.

Let us know what the vet says.

Thank you, Kathy....that was VERY helpful, and also explains

why the second time Meaty was limping (as opposed to the time he could NOT bear weight at all on one foot, then it "magically" healed an

hour later..!!!!)  .... For the time he just limped, we were

surprized that his visit was very brief, vet wasn't worried, no X-rays ( which we wondered about at the time!)....OF course we

knew this awesome vet can just  tell by a throughough exam, annnd, Meaty was FINE a day or two later  :-)...

....

My concern is always PAIN, too----everrrything I've read said many doggies (maybe ALL??) ---but that especially BULLDOGS

are known to be stoic and not SHOW their pain.....That's what hurts hubby's and my hearts....knowing she (or Meaty those

other times) are in pain but not showing it.....The only reasonable solution to that is ask doc to RX a few painkillers.....just in

case  :(    We'll see what he says....WOOF!  And THANK YOU again!  :)

im taking gracie today for the same thing

Im kind of freaking out a little bit.  I almost started crying last night when I realized she could barely walk on her back leg.  I have no idea what it could be.  She doesn't run or anything like that but she does jump off the couches and the bed.  Maybe she came down wrong?  Plus her tail pocket is so bad she needs to go on meds. I have been cleaning it everyday, puttting desitin to keep it dry.  the poor thing is so itchy.  It's weird because the same thing happended the same exact time last year.  I wonder if its allergies?  Anyway, I hope everything is okay with both our bullies...........

Fatboy had a really bad limp once

our breeder told us to crate him for at least two weeks.  So we did and the limp went away.  Not sure why he was limping, but he may have just overextended the ligaments while having the zoomies.

dislocated knee cap

our guy will limp if he runs really fast or jumps off the bed wrong. when we took him to  a holistic vet for his annual exam they mentioned that his knee cap pops in an out with full rAnge of movement every so often. maybe see if it could be something along those lines?

Thank you, everybully!!! Sophie's better now, it was a

VERY lengthy exam (GOOD vet!) and Xrays....he thought she tore her ACL or had the kneecap displacement, but it wasn't that.

I learned more that day about bones and joints!!!  ACK!!!  :-)  She does have mild arthritis and some other things I don't have

time to post about....but soo happy it wasn't anything serious that requires surgery....Thank you again!  :-)
