Hip Dysplasia

Like most bulldog my 2 yr old Jimmy just got diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia and it's not bad enough for surgery yet but I'm wondering if anybody knows of a certain food that will help with the joints so he doesn't have to have surgery . . . that is OK for bulldogs, he's currently on Royal Canine Bulldog

Why did the vet take x-rays

Is your dog limping?

I would suggest that you keep your dog's weight down and regular exercise to build up muscle will help a great deal.

Good luck

Bulldogs have notoriously bad hips...

Lynn is right, keep his weight down, walks are good, glucosamine can help.

Yes they did x-rays cause he

Yes they did x-rays cause he was limping around. He is in great shape and we walk all the time . . . I am wondering if that is part of the problem cause were we moved its up a big hill and we walk up that to the trails and the trails are up and down.  It seemed to have started when we moved here.  They also said that his musclular legs is helping it stay in place, so we are lucky that way

I give 1000 mg Glucosamine Sulfate daily.

I buy it from Walmart, pretty cheap that way. One pill a day in his feed...I just put the pill in whole and mix a tablespoon of plain, fat free yogurt in to help cover the pill:-)

Great thank you for the help

Great thank you for the help :)  Do you think it`s worth changing his food to a health brand that helps with joint issues or will these pills do just the same?

It depends on the food...

I have several hip issue type dogs. I feed them a good grain free and just supplement with the Glucosamine...
