Duffy's legs seem less strong. They slide a bit outward. I know this is the reason some dogs are put to sleep. I have been giving him Glucosimine and Condroitine (sp?). I know there is steroids - Rymadyl (sp?). I have not tried those in a while as I think Duffy pees a lot already.
Duffy is 13 1/2 - so is this the fate of a Bulldog that doesn't have other sicknesses?
Any suggestions?
Is it his back that is causing the weakness?
Ollie is turning 11 next week, and his back legs tend to give out, he slowly sinks lower and lower when he's standing and he slips a lot on the tile floor. An xray showed he has bone spurs in his back and that is making his legs weak. He is on Rimadyl every day and the orthopedic vet added a drug called Galbapentin which is a seizure drug, but can also help with nerve pain (like Lyrica). We also give him a Tramadol on days when he's really bad. We just want to make him comfortable. So far it's been working pretty well, he gets around and doesn't seem to be suffering at all. At his age that's the best we can do for him. Hope you can find some relief for your guy too.
Also...
steroids like prednisone will make them pee a lot, but rimadyl doesn't. There is also a generic to Rimadyl that is much cheaper.
I agree with Kathy
I have used both Rimadyl and Tramadol, both with great success. At this age, it's just about keeping them comfortable.
Good luck
