Hi Everyone. I have a 12 year old female Bully who has always been prone to UTI's.
in recent years we have switched her food, kept her clean and it has helped a great deal.
now that she's getting older, she seems to get them more often. any tips on prevention?
have any of you had any luck with supplements? if so, which ones?
thanks for your advice!
Oreo used to have a lot of uti's...
I don't remember what the cultures showed although I do remember Ecoli at one point. Our vet decided to put her on Methanamine Hippurate (a very inexpensive pill taken daily) that actually cleansed her urine so that it didn't cause infection as it was eliminated. It really worked well for her and she didn't have another for the years that she lived after that. Not sure if it would work for all types of bacteria, but worth exploring.
Ethel is going through the
same thing right now... Right after she is done with her heat - bammm she gets one... I am sure it's Ecoli again, she squats outside and her little girl parts are touching the ground.. This time they gave me a different kind of medicine, my husband is going to pick it up today, if this infection is the same as the last heat, we will ask for the other medicine... I hate giving my dog new meds - especially since the other one worked just fine... I give her cranberry everyday too... I think it's just her squatting all over the yard leaving her mark everywhere...
My old Doberman girl used to do this as well...
She would finish one round of antibiotics, and two weeks later she had another UTI. I started her on daily Cranberry with vitamin c pills, you can get them from Walmart and I buy the Spring Valley brand, 4500mg Cranberry plus vitamin c ones. One a day. I also started her on Proin, it helped stopped all UTI's for almost 3 years before Kora passed away of age.

Ive been
giving the cranberry - especially through her heat... same thing happened last heat though... I guess all that squatting in the yard doesn't help....
Thank you
Thanks for your tips. I will look into these supplements.
