Tank has gotten some serious swelling in the last couple of hours. You can see it here on the left side. It is about half the size of a softball, and is firm to the touch. I felt around the outside and inside of his mouth and can't seem to find what would cause the damage. And it doesn't seem to be causing him pain. However, he's not drooling much at all. I'm extremely concerned. I called the vet, my husband and I are out of town, so it's not our normal dependable girl. It's around 8pm here. The stupid vet was more concerned about his evening than checking on Tank. The only advice I was given was to give him more benadryl. Then maybe to bring him in the morning. Even then they said they might not be able to see him. My mom thinks it might be cheat grass. But Tank doesn't seem to mind the swollen area being touched, the outside or the inside of the cheek. Can anyone help me??

Sounds like a bug bite...
the benedryl should help with any allergic reaction. Is there an emergency vet nearby? I would have her put some warm compresses on it and if it's not bothering him and he's breathing okay, see how it is in the morning. Benedryl is basically 1 mg per pound of body weight.
How is Tank this morning?
How's your sweet boy doing?? I'm sorry the vet did not seem helpful...please let us know!
Shannon and Winston :)
My swimming bully buddy!
Poor guy. Could be a bite or even an abscess
I hope he is better this morning
another possibility
We had the exact same thing happen with our oldest girl. Turned out she had been chewing nylabones vertically like she was shaving the darn thing and got several splinters in her cheek. The vet took them out and we sent them to a lab because at first we had no idea what they were. Took awhile to get results back and then looking at nylabones, sure enough.
Could be a bug also. We live in Wyoming so this is very rare but a friend of ours who has a bully found a worm coming out his side near his fromt legs. Botfly-don't really have them in Wyoming so all the vets in Casper wanted to come see the darn thing. Turned out to be educational for all.
dont know if dogs get this
dont know if dogs get this but swelling on the check like that can be due to parotiditis which would need anitbiotics to be treated. definitely harass your vet or get him seen by someone else.
Tank's face is still swollen.
Tank's face is still swollen. Husband thinks it might be a spider bite, and we can't get to our normal vet until tomorrow. I'm keeping up on his benadryl. And he's drinking water fine, but doesn't have much of an appitie. Earlier he had some coordination issues, but that could have been the medicine. Should I be worried? How long before the swelling goes down?

Look in his ear
Does his ear feel hot and look red? I ask because you mention coordination issues.
He definitely needs to see a Vet.
I would bring him to a vet today
even if its not your usual vet. Especially if he is having coordiniation issues. He needs to be seen.
UPDATE
Tank has an infected abcess in his cheek. The vet isn't sure what caused it. She says the coordination issues were caused by his fever. He is now on antibiotics, painkillers and benadryl. They can't drain the abcess right now because it is still too solid. He's still drinking water, and still only eating human food. (We have him on chicken right now.)
Thanks for all the help.
