Porkchop had major diarrhea 2 days ago. I started her rice and boiled hamburger and within that one day the diarrhea stopped. I've kept her on the rice/hamburger diet and she hasn't pooped since the diarrhea. What should I do now...go back to her usual diet....add her usual food to the rice/hamberger and slowly switch her over to her usual food??? I had planned on a slow switch back in a couple of more days. Please advise. Also, how long can she go without a bowel movement. Never have had this happen in the 11 years we've had her with us. She acts fine. Wants to play, Resting well. Please help me help her.

I would give it another day or so...

my guys often go a few days without after diarrhea. Slowly switch back to regular food.

Similar experience with Gus last month

He had diarrhea on a Saturday and I did the boiled rice and hamburger diet for four days to let his tummy rest.  He ate and drank normally but he didn't have a bowel movement until the following Tuesday evening.  Our vet told us that it's normal to take three or four days for normal bowel movements to resume after a bout with diarrhea.

Maybe a little bit of pumpkin puree to help with the

constipation? I've read it works to both fix diarrhea and constipation. I've mixed a small amount in Fatboy's meal when slowly switching him off a chicken & rice diet.

My biggest concern was her lack of a bowel movement and all of you have done more than you know to ease my mind. i started pumpkin yesterday. About a teaspoon twice a day. Is that okay? I added about a half of a cup of her regular dog food this morning to her rice and hamburger.

Thank you all!!

My experience with Gus

I think that amount of pumpkin is okay.  To me, it's better to err with too little than too much.  She will probably be back to normal very soon.
