Blocked tear duct? Environmental allergies' last laugh? *pic*

3 days now Chum's upper eyelid has been swollen and he has been smashing his face into the cushions. Are there home remedies or should I take him to his dr tomorrow?  I gave him one benedryl 2 hours ago when he started scratching his face with his foot.

Dang it Chumlee,

I wish I could offer healing advice......but the best I can do is to say I would high tail you to the vet!

Sorry your guy is having problems Katie, but maybe your vet could just nip it in the bud.

Let us know, and sending much love to your guy.

That happened to Ollie one time...

his eye was very swollen.  The vet gave him Temeril P which is an antihistamine with a little pred in it, it really helped.

It could be several different things

I would use an eye wash first in case there is some irritant in the eye. Then, if it wasn't better the next day, I would go to the Vet. It could be a clogged tear duct, allergies, entropian or distichia. Your Vet needs to exam the eye for any lashes rubbing against the eye. From your picture, it looks to me like his lower lid is rolling in some which would indicate entropian. However, allergies can cause the lid to swell which can also make the lid roll in toward the eye. For any type of eye issue not related to allergies I prefer using an Opthamologist. I have found that an Opthamologist in not really any more expensive than a regular Vet.
