My bulldog, Wilson, is 3 1/2 years old. He started bleeding from his penis about 3 weeks ago. 1st time: I thought injury to penis because it lasted 2 days and stopped. A week later it started again, I took him to vet.: no fever, eating and drinking normally, no blood in urine, the vet catherized him said no apparent stones in urinary tract, turine test came back with no infection. There was no injury to penis. Vet said she wasn't sure and see if it would stop again with time. It stopped for a week and again started up. I'm not just talking a couple drops of blood, but a lot. It seems to happen when he is excited. I should also mention he is neutered so vet said not prostrate. I don't want to get into "throwing spaghetti at the wall" with the vet. I can't afford the vet not knowing. I'm thinking of having a blood test done to see if he has a blood disorder or ....
Any advice would be great if you have experienced this with your bulldog.
I think I would be looking for a new vet.
Did they do an ultrasound to confirm no kind of blockage, ie...kidney stones, bladder stones? Our bulldog had a bladderstone the size of a river rock. If he wasn't neutered, I would think possible prolapse. Have they done a complete CBC blood panel to see if anything is elevated? I think I would take all of his records and find a new vet. Is this vet familiar with bulldogs. On the home page there is a list of vets by state. Good luck with your boy. I hope you get answers soon. Keep us updated.
It does sound like a prolapse...
even when they are neutered, it can happen when they get excited. There is usually a simple procedure to stitch it up, but it should be done before it gets worse. I agree that you should probably look for a new vet.
