My bulldog is 10 yo, was purchased from a reputable breeder and has been very healthy up until recently. A few days ago he started acting very spacy and was yelping any time he jumped on or off the couch. It appeared to hurt to lift his head up and down. He was not interested in eating (I think because leaning over bowl was painful). Any attempts at picking him up also resulted in a high pitched yelp of pain which I have only heard a few times in his life. After multiple trips to the vet (first they thought arthritis and sent meds with no improvement, then sent pain meds with no improvement, then more pain meds, and finally to a neurologist). The vet kept him overnight and they did an MRI this morning. They have ruled out a disc issue, and the current theory is that he has some sort of cancer. There are white spots on the MRI which indicate inflammation. The vet sent some cells out to see if the type of cancer could be identified. She also suggested possibly scanning his abdomen to look for a mass. It was hard for me to get a clear answer on next steps, but even if they can identify the type of cancer. I am not sure he or I can handle putting him through radiation/chemo. He shakes any time he goes near the vets. Right now he is home, was coming off anesthesia meds so peed on the couch (unlike him). Is out of it and panting a lot but does not seem to be in as much pain. They have given him prednisone and a few other meds. Part of me also wonders about getting a second opinion, but I just don't want him to go on in pain. Does this MRI with white spots look familiar to anyone (I attached a photo)? Has anyone experienced something similar? Thank you in advance for any thoughts.
