Trophy Question

I was watching video of Nationals of the past and was wondering if anyone knew the name of the 4.5 foot high trophy that seemed to be given to the National day breed winner? Any info would be interesting.

Re: Trophy Question

Thanks for the info, E. I've seen the trophy in pictures before (now that I think of it, I remember seeing it in Yancey National win pics too) but never really noticed how large it was until the other day, as I'm usually looking hard at the dog.

Rodney Trophy

According to the BCA SOP, the Rodney Trophy is awarded for Best of Breed at the BCA National Show. The dog must be bred, owned and exhibited by a member of BCA. The Rodney Trophy will be available for photographs to qualifing winners. The Rodney Trophy shall remain with National Gallery.

Re: Trophy Question

Hi Jay

Feel lucky it is not offered anymore! It was huge! We carted it home from Charlotte for Frigate..in a case we called "the coffin"
It went home with each years winner and got destroyed over time.

I think the Japanese Bulldog Club donated it. They presented it from at least 1983 to 1988 (I am picturing those two win pictures in my head) It was around before that, just not sure what year it was donated.

Ask Carla Ehntholt what became of it.

Other Trophies

There are only two other trophies allowed under BCA's SOP.

1. Fearnought Trophy, awarded to the Best Stud Dog at the National Show

2. Min-A-Sota Fats Brood Bitch Bowl, awarded to the Best Brood Bitch at the National Show.

Rodney Trophy

Hi Calvin,

I've seen the Rodney Trophy and it is a large bowl-type trophy. The trophy I'm referring to is tall and column-like.
