ARROYO GRANDE -
An investigation is underway into a dog theft in Arroyo Grande, after a woman said someone stole her two prize show dogs.
Gyongyi "Gina" Szasz Klein is a longtime handler, breeder and owner of English Bull Dogs. On Friday night, she says a thief took her 2-year-old male and 2-year-old female bull dogs, worth about two-thousand dollars each.
Klein reported the dogs stolen early Saturday morning.
First she noticed someone tampered with the gate leading to the dogs' pen. Next she checked inside their kennel, and they were gone.
Klein found, what she believes is evidence, of someone climbing over her backyard wall to steal the English Bull Dogs.
"I don't know, I have no idea who would do that," she said.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department is investigating, and a spokesman said this type of crime is rare, and that deputies will only pursue the investigation if they have a strong lead.
In the meantime, Klein is posting flyers around her Arroyo Grande neighborhood, offering a five-thousand dollar reward.
"I hope somebody will find my babies," she said.
Klein said the male Bull Dog, Dusty, is a winning show dog, who will be a champion some day.
If you have any information on the missing English Bull Dogs, you're asked to call the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Department at 781-4550.
