When a breeder asks for references and wants to have a veterinarine reference what do they accept..
meaning.
I have a very very busy vet..I doubt he would take phone calls from breeders asking for a reference on me..Not that it would be a horrible reference..its that he is so busy and have so many patients, he would have to look up my file etc.
Also the confidentiality issue.
Now he may write a letter of reference that I can use ..send to breeder...
Would that be acceptable?
What have you breeders experienced concerning this.
What kind of reference do you breeders like to see?
Re: vet reference
I always ask that the potential puppy buyer call the vet's office and let them know they can answer my questions.

Re: vet reference
so basically I can just give the vets office # and that will be fine?
Do I need to inform the staff that I am giving the # for a reference?
vet reference
I seldom talk directly with the vet on a reference unless there is a question the front office staff can't answer.
My questions to the clinic usually are:
Does the client follow recommendations for well-dog visits, vaccinations, and heartworm prevention?
Are their pets generally in good condition (clean, well fed, nails clipped)?
Are their pets microchipped?
Were the client's other pets spayed/neutered?
Do you have any experience with the client breeding their dogs?
Is there anything in your experience with the client that would suggest abuse or neglect or be cause for concern of any kind?
