In an ironic twist of fate, the two PETA protesters arrested at the Westminster Dog Show were euthanized by the local New York Police precinct captain because the jail was full of what he referred to as "Purebred Criminals"
Before Westminster judge Elliot Weiss could make it over to the precinct headquarters to tell the arresting officers that he really didn't care about this silly signs they displayed, the pair of well dressed protestors had already met thier fate. Although the precinct captain acted on his own, the Police Commissioner and Mayor agreed with his actions.
Raymond Kelly, NYC Police Commissioner contends that the focus on stopping drug dealers and gang members from committing more serious crimes leaves many smalltime offenders like PETA protestors with nowhere to go, and he said "euthanasia becomes a sad necessity".
A crowd of four (4) other PETA suppporters gasped at the sudden decision by the police captain but then cheered when they were told charges against them for criminal trespass had been dropped.
Oh the Irony!
