Re: Therefore?
That would be provided the dog were prepotent..
seriously, that dog would be welcome, but as you know, quality produce goes by the wayside with ignorant breeding.
The fact that the dog was that good would only be truly appreciated by knowledgeable breeders. As always, the bulk of people breeding to him would be people who were just following the crowd.
Then, as what happens, when those who found success breeding to a prepotent winner find themselves having to think about breeding with no help end up not doing as well as they got used to and they leave..
And someone new takes their place...
And so on and so on and so on....
Therefore?
So are you saying that someone has to come up with a QUALITY and big winning male that is owned by someone that is well-liked and respected so that things can change?

Re: Disheartening
Consider the dynamics. Many breeders who are the most active have the fewest years experience. With s few exceptions, it seems that as years go by, the tenured breeders breed less and the new exhibitors are more eager.
That dynamic is consistant decade after decade, therefore we see the same issues.
The bulk of active breeders breed trends instead of the standard and those trends set the bar for the next group.

Disheartening
That's a little sad and disheartening that the players change but the same problems continue, E.

Re: 1990 vs. 2010
I would add a dog or two (or five)to my own list.
The same problems have been discussed for over 100 years. Nothing really chages, just the names of the people.

Pictures
Some of them are in the BCA Gallery of Nationl Specilaty winners, and their portraits can be viewed on the BCA website at

Re: More Interesting "Pro & Con" From A 1990 Bulldogger
It's strange to me that 1990 just doesn't seem that long ago!
Many people now have never even heard of many of those dogs, let alone seen them live.
E
1990 vs. 2010
I don't know, E. 1990 was back when I thought someone that was 25 was old. LOL
Anyway, while I was posting this, I wondered if those same people would give the same names today, if they were all around and if they were to answer the same questions. I don't know if better dogs or bitches have come around in the last 20 years to have their answers change.
I always find it interesting that many of the same issues that were problems then are still issues today. Why is that?
I hoped someone would post pictures of these dogs and bitches so we can see them.
