My groomer says that they used to use this Vaseline to keep the noses wet and shiny at shows and it also helped when there were "Hotties" distracting the boys. (Thanks Don I like that word) Does anyone know where to pick this up at??? I'm guessing show Vendors or suppliers?
Thanks a Really Good Idea! I'm so leary of traveling
with liquids because they always seem to open up. I've looked high and low locally and online for the Black Vaseline and I've decided to just wait for a large all breed show with plenty of Vendors. I know I can find it there. (I think he said he found it last fall in Houston at a show) Anyway cotton balls in a zip lock are a Great idea... I'll use that at our next show!!! Thanks for sharing that Don!!
this may help (vanilla trick)
We put 4 or 5 cottonballs in a ziplock bag and then dump a couple of tablespoons into it. That goes into the grooming bag. Then, just blot it on his nose before you start grooming at the show. If by some twist the bag opens, the most damage you have is a very nice smelling grooming bag.
Perserverance isn't a long race.
It's a series of short races,
ran one after the other.

Re: Hey Cati, I'll check it out today! Gotta be careful of
My boys aren't really bothered by girls in season.
I bought it some years ago because a boy of mine had 2 interdigital cysts that I just couldn't get rid of. Someone told me to try that stuff on them.
Hey Cati, I'll check it out today! Gotta be careful of
ingredients. Is this what you use on your boys??
Hi Jay, Thats the ssame suggestion Don Bryson made.
I was hoping for something non-liquid (spillage) and the fact that it actually still helps with nose preservation in the way of vaseline. I'm gonna try the Vanilla at play group this week since I know a little Boston just came into season. Thanks, Connie
i put vic's on the nose of the males
im showing, 1 it keeps them from smelling the girls. I also have used it on the girls to keep them from sniffing the ground.

Vanilla Extract
Hi Connie,
I'm unfamiliar with the product you're asking about, however, many have had good success by using a couple of drops of plain vanilla extract on dogs' noses to distract them from bitches in season while showing.

Re: Looking for Black Licorice Vaseline
I believe you are wanting Old Hickory Black Salve. It has a strong licorice smell. I bought it either at Farm & Fleet or Tractor Supply...can't remember which. It is made for bruises and sore muscles.
I will look at our Farm & Fleet or Tractor Supply
They both carry horse and cattle supplies...
He said it comes in a small flat round container
Kinda like a shoe polish tin but a little smaller and was actually a vaseline product that was black and smelled very strongly of black Licorice. I suppose anything with a nice smell and with the texture of vaseline would work. We use regular vaseline when we do our weekly grooming to help with dry noses. What does the Watkins Petro/Carbo salve smell like?? I know he hates anything Menthol.
I Use
a product called Silverado Face Glo Black on their noses. It has kind of a grape smell. It's a horse product. You can find at some farm stores or where they sell horse products. Don't know if this would help. If I take my girls to shows when they are in season I usually put some Vicks on their rear. I was told that helps disguise the scent.
Are you speaking about Watkins brand petro-carbo salve? nm
