I have a question and maybe I just don't know where to look for the answer myself. There is a new rule as many of you know, that in order to say you are a member of the BCA and POST it on your website, you have to submit and be approved for the BCA Breeder Referral list. If you do not, you can't say you are a member of the BCA on your website. Would it be possible for a breeder to become inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame if you are not on the approved "Breeder Referral List"???
If all the dogs that you are finishing are becoming champions, and YOU are the breeder, but have not been approved and you never apply, what does that say for the BCA rule? Maybe I am not understanding something. I will take me MANY years before I could ever be anywhere close to being in the Hall of Fame (if ever), but we were recently approved and knowing several people that breed ALOT and have many champions and are or will be inducted, just made me start thinking about this new rule. If the BCA would not approve you as a breeder, they would still award you a place in the Hall of Fame for breeding and producing champions??? Again, maybe I just am confused as to the process.
Yes
You do have to apply to the Division for Breeder Referral to legally use the BCA logo and your BCA membership on your site or any advertising you do. You can get the form from the BCA site under breeder Referral. Complete it and send it to our Div Sec Sharon Zakar. It will be brought up at a Div meeting and voted on. Once you are approved you will also be added to the BCA list on the BCA site. I applied and was approved at the last Div meeting in Indy. I am still waiting for Sharon to notify BCA so I can be added to the BCA site. I have started using the BCA logo on my site.
That is the correct way to do it. However enforcement by the BCA is no where to be found. You can, at your own risk, violate the BCA rule and hope you don't get made an example of.
I believe her question
had more to do with this -
Could a breeder that was not approved by the BCA Breeder Referral Program be a Hall of Fame Breeder?
I believe she said she has been recently approved.
Thank you Deb
you are correct Deb, thank you. I was approved and that is not my question. Just wondered if someone who breeds alot, but yet is not on the breeder referral list, could be in the Hall of Fame.
From BCA site
Not sure if anything has change but this is in the BCA Standard Operating Procedures:
Breeders
i. Breeder must have bred ten or more champions of record.
ii. Breeder must be a BCA member.
iii. Plateaus
a. Awards will be given to breeders who have bred 25,
50 and 75 champions of record.

BCA
You can be in the BCA HOF as a Breeder if you have met the criteria (indunction is 10 CH) without being in the Breeder Referral Program. However the ruling prohibits a member from using membership to sell pups unless you are in the Breeder Referral Program.:As a member of BCA, you agree not to publicize this membership nor use the BCA logo on any advertisement, publication and/or web site to promote your breeding program until you have been approved by the Division Board of Governors for listing in the Breeder Referral Directory. Frankly I think BCA needs to review this. There are a lot of BCA members who are not in the Breeder Referral Program who have an occassional litter or pup for sale.. The purpose of the BRP is not just to sell pups but to give a potential buyer someone to contact for answers to questions and educational purposes. It can be very time consuming responding to phone calls and emails from people who are "just looking" for a puppy. Not everyone breeds frequently enough to have puppies available or has the time to respond to casual inquiries. Also as someone in the BRP if I don't have pups I will refer the buyer to someone I know who does have pups. This person is most likely a member of BCA (and probably shows) and has the quality of pups and the ethical behavior as a breeder that makes me comfortable in providing the referral. As BCA should want to encourage membership I do not understand why they would not want a member to say or publish "I am a member of the BCA" or to display the logo. Buyers should be encouraged to purchase pups from BCA members--not just AKC regisitered pups. Purchasing from a BCA member should give the buyer the additional assurance that they are purchasing from an ethical breeder because as a member you have agreed to follow the BCA Code of Ethics. As Far as the HOF--you do not have to be part of the BRP to be in the HOF or vice versa. However it is a huge accomplishment as a breeder to be in the HOF and I think someone who is should be allowed to shout it from the roof tops--or publish it on their website: I am a member of the BCA and in the BCA HOF as a Breeder of champion Bulldogs.

Thank you Miriam for your explanation and opinion. Do you know
the reasoning behind not letting a unlisted breeder, yet member of BCA, to use the BCA logo. I have been careful not to include it, but I do give information about BCA and give copies of their printed information about Bulldogs to prospective puppy buyers to help them decide and learn, and also help me decide if they would make a good home for a bulldog. Just wondering the reasoning behind this rule?
And always .....Winston. Gone but never forgotten!
I have no idea
what the reasoning could be and do not understand this rule. I think it is important for BCA to encourage anyone with a true love of Bulldogs to join. It makes no sense to me that a member who has been accepted and paid their dues cannot say they are a member on a website or in any other kind of advertising. Buyers should be encouraged to buy from BCA members and being on the Breeder Referral List or not should not make a difference. Maybe someone who helped make this rule can provide an explanation for us.
