Mason started on Bravo lamb and pork blends last Monday(I switch it up and give him lamb one day and pork the next day). He absolutely loves it but he isn't pooping much. Should I be worried or is this normal? Monday he pooped once and yesterday he didn't do anything and so far today only once. I mean its nice but just wanted to make sure it was normal?
water intake.....
make sure he is getting enough water....but raw cuts their water intake way down....they just dont have to drink so much to move all that grain out....i bought wilson a water fountain as he is just not a water drinker...but he likes his fountain....
when i go for walks i mix 1/2 pedilyte with reg water to make sure they get a boost if they should get hot....
but if he is healthy eating and drinking ok i would not worry...their is alot of moisture in raw...if at any time you feel your dog is getting dehydrated lift the skin on the back of the neck it should spring right back...if its slow he needs water....
Water intake ??
I have noticed mine drink very little water which concerns me. When the vet did Ester's blood workup a few weeks ago he said she was slightly dehydrated. It was 7:00am so she didn't have breakfast and didn't have any water since the day before. Should I be giving them something to make them drink more.
I agree ...
When I switched Hurley to raw, he went from pooping 3-4 times a day on kibble, to only once a day on raw. Sometimes he'll poop a second time if we go to the dog park or something, but that's every other day at most. As Judy mentioned, his water intake went way down too. If we're just hanging out around the house, he'll go the whole day without touching his water bowl.
remember....
he is no longer having to remove from his body all those fillers that he was getting with kibble.....you will also start to notice a decrease in water intake....my dogs poop once a day but some times will go two days after that i would worry a little....but since your using a pre made diet i wouldnt worry about to much bone...
good luck....
I'd say....
and I'm sure others, who are much more experienced than me will chime in too - as long as he's going and it's ok and he's not straining, I would think things are fine - they will go less, because there is less waste with raw than with kibble.
Twister ususally goes twice a day, but it's very minimal
