yeast solution?

The other week I mentioned to a manager at petco that I had a bully that had yeast problems and she told me to try Acidophilus and fish oil capsules before I try switching his food. He is currently on natural balance fish and sweet potato and I have been giving him the Acidophilus and fish oil for 3 weeks now and I have yet to see a difference in the yeast problem. His ears stay terrible..I can clean them out good and then by the next morning they are terribly crusted over with yeast. Does anyone know of any vitamins or anything that might help with the yeast?

food and treat ingredients....

comparing the treats and kibble to see if it might be something in the treats. Looks like main ingredient in treats is white potatoes (assuming that "dried potatoes" are white.) Other diff is that treats have whitefish meal and molasses. Hmmm..

What the heck is "Natural Flavor??" These companies must think we are idiots. That could be anything.

I know how frustrating the search can be, but don't give up!

He only gets the fish and sweet potato treats...

And I know for a fact because its just me and him here. Hmm haven't ever thought about the sweet potato in the food but if he can't have rice or sweet potato then there really isn't another choice. My poor boy will be 6 years old next month and I still haven't found a food that he does good on sad.gif

maybe it's not the protein source..

since all the NB varieties seem to cause the same problem for him, maybe it's the sweet potatoes or some other common ingredient and not the protein source that is causing his ear problem.

Are you and all family members very careful about not giving treats, nibbles and bites of anything other than his kibble? I had a really difficult time convincing my husband that even tiny bites of his food could cause problems for the dogs.

I've tried the duck...he had yeast problems with it too

I think i'm going to try the NB bison just to see what happens. That's about the only other food I know to try that he might not be allergic to. Alot of the grain free foods i've looked at have either eggs or chicken meal in them which he is allergic to so there really isn't many choices of food for him that I have found anyways.

try the NB duck..

Junior had a greasy coat and yeasty ears on the fish and the venison. I barely have to ever clean his ears on the duck. He does lick his feet if I don't bathe weekly though. But no ear or skin issues.

Natures Farmacy (correct spelling) sells a solution called

Chlora care, you can use it as a spray or apply with somekind of white. Works GREAT Vet's Choice sells something similar, I would guess it is more than the food that causes it, sounds like to much moisture. Malotic ointment from the vet works great in real bad cases

yeast

i was talking to a food rep at the bully beauty contest about yeast. he said that they are now finding a link between "potato (white/sweet)" and yeast. he recommended that if you are having a yeast issue try a food that binds with pea starch. there is also supplements

http://www.nzymes.com/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=7

that he highly recommends. i've ordered them, i have a yeast problem with my 7 month old boy. also a touch of apple cider vinegar in the water each day. good luck.

He is allergic to oatmeal too so can't use that :(

And like I said with my beginning post he is allergic to chicken and beef and of course eggs and milk which a lot of foods have chicken meal or eggs in them. So i'm clueless on what to feed him next because everything I seem to look at has one of the ingredients he is allergic to in them and he is also allergic to rice so it has to be a grain free food.

Solid Gold Holistic Blendz

My dogs do well on this food. It is my 'go to' food when I get in a Rescue with coat issues, or have a fat dog or anything else crops up.
If the food alone isn't quite enough to satisfy their nutritional needs, you can always add a bit of protein to it with some chicken, beef, etc.

you could try

Wellness Simple Solution or California Natural. Both have limited ingredients. One protein and one grain. Both have good websites and locations of where you can buy. What one bully does well on another does not. Our bully girl does not do well on higher protein, so we are now trying Solid Gold Holistique.

I don't feed my guys natural balance anymore...

I "honestly" had less yeast and skin issues come up when I fed Royal Canine... But I am feeding Iams right now and my dogs are all doing great on it.

I have tried the vinegar and water before...

He acts like it burns his ears..one time I tried it he cried out so I haven't done that anymore. He has actually been on a raw diet before but that was before he was allergy tested and I found out I was feeding him everything he was allergic to(chicken and beef).

What food did you switch to?

I'm assuming they don't have any yeast problems now? Mason has been on all the natural balance grain free formulas except for the new bison and sweet potato and I had thought about trying it but hated switching him once again..I have switched the poor boys food so many times but seems like everything I try he either breaks out in hives or has yeast problems or crystals in urine.

I had to change from that food because of yeast.

yeast

Stella is having similar issues.
I switched her to a raw diet.
I have started flushing her ears out with a diluted apple cider vinegar solution, hopefully it will clear up soon.

Good luck!
