whelp dates

when doing progesterone tests, what is the earliest whelp date safely possible from ovulation? trying to get my ducks in a row. I was given a date by the vet from her progesterone level(63 days from ovulation), I just wasn't sure how early they may go in before this date? I've always relied on slides and has been 59 or 60 days from a breeding. thank you!

thank you!!! U 2

best wishes for your litter as well, I think the male you used is a SUPER handsome fellow as well!! I'm thinking 6 as well I get x rays in the am. Vera had 10 last year and I was praying for that not to happen again, lol... good luck, and only best wishes!

how I do it

I always determine due date by date of ovulation, not breeding. So if she ovulates on a Tuesday...due date is on a Tuesday nine weeks (63 days) later. If she ovulated on a Thursday, due date is on Thursday nine weeks later. etc, etc. This way, for me, is super easy to count. And, we get same day progesterone results so that is helpful.

Good Luck Kristie...

My Olivia, CH Beau's Let It Be Me CD, is also due next Monday. I did progesterone testing and surgical implant. She's doing just fine...round, but fine. Expecting 6 pups.

I hope all goes well for you.

I believe that the date they chose to AI is usually a day before

because the egg has to mature after ovulation

We use Camelot farms Date to Mate and our local vet does it in a

Any vet that is trained in the method can do it without fancy equipment. We have been using this method for about 8 years and have never had a problem in taking the pups at the wrong time since we started testing at the end of the breeding cycle as well as for ovulation.

Using this test our stats for pregnancy is right at 96.3

Day 60

Hi Kristie,

My vet says he would like them to make to at least Day 60 from ovulation (5.5+). Keep us posted. Can't wait to hear.

How I do it

Ovulation is day O, and the day after is day 1.

another question...

do you count the day of ovulation as day 1 or the day after as day 1 when counting to 63?

You can use the progesterone test in reverse to determine when t

That is what we did this past litter and it told us the pups were ready on day 59. They were right. We have never had a problem since we started using the progesterone testing to determine when the pups are ready to come,

thank you!

Her due date is next Monday, I really don't feel she will go till then. I have always taken them in first signs of distress or pre labour unfortunately I haven't bred off progesterone levels before so was curious if dogs actually go to 63 days from ovulation. Thank you so much for your response. Kristie

well

Well, my vet would like them to be at least 60 days from ovulation(5-8ng). I personally don't like to wait to day 63 since I find pups are often more likely to be stressed. So, I schedule the c-sections 62 days from ovulation. Often take them at day 61 if that's a Sat and day 63 is a Monday, so I don't get stuck having them go in labor on Sunday. This last litter of 10 pups had to come early and they were only 58-59 days from ovulation(probably 58.5 days from O)and all 10 pups made it without problems, but I tend to have big, strong pups at birth. So, if u have to go a little early u can as to not lose the bitch-but that's a judgement call and every situation is different. But if u can make it to 61-62 days from O that's great. Never go past 63 days from ovulation. Good Luck,Lottie

interesting

I'd love to live in a town that got progesterone tests back in a few hours.... ours take two days so not sure I could rely on this method.(I was fortunate to have a vet in the states do this breeding) My mom thinks I'm nuts but I feel if your with your girls 24/7 you feel when they need to go in, being in a small town my vet will do this so I've been fortunate.. My second litter I was so panicked and called my mom over who has breed dogs for 30+ years she didn't think she was in labour and we waited 5 more hours.... not one contraction by the time the vet did the section and all pups had pooped in their sacks and were stressed, but were fine. I have learnt to trust my instincts, and find theory of bulldogs very interesting, and Love the discussions on them in general. Sharing is learning!, this board is wonderful!!

thanks Mary

for everything!!! the last week I'm a wreak!!! Wed. she's going in for the count, to make sure I have enough helpers!!! she was pretty restless last night.

Does it matter....

on what procedure was taken to get the female pregnant? What I mean is AI vs Invetro. We have chosen to do it only invetro ( with 4 different females no misses vs AI no sucesses ) and our vet waits until day 64. He has explained to me that he counts 4 days back from the surgical procedure. NOW I'm not saying this is the better procedure, I just want to know if delivery is done on a different date than doing AI? I would think if you are doing smears and progessterones the ovulation date is the ovulation date and when the pups are delivered it would be the same amount of days.

I count the day we first breed as day 1. We start checking proge

then we check day 59 and then the next checks are determined by the progesterone amt. That is why we took the pups on day 59 yesterday. They were ready. If we had left them in any longer we might have lost one or two of them, and mom was being stressed.
