Simplicef is for skin/ear type infections

this is what our vet just gave us after Mama Jo's tail amputation and she also has an ear infection. Said it would cover both.

I agree with you too.

have used all the mentioned antibiotics and the results were the same as Vicky said

My vet just put dog on Cipro for psuedo.....

w/ 2 refills. I've used Baytril for systemic infections...as well as Cephalexin. Clavamox is what vet gave bitch after whelping when she had a slight fever and wasn't producing milk...think babies might have gone on it too. Different vets different dogs.different opinions I guess.

Depends on what the bacteria is

I would always culture first if possible. Antibiotics are expensive, and you don't want to spend a fortune on something that isn't effective.

In my experience, Simplicef and Cephalexin treat the same types of bacteria, but Clavamox treats different ones. I have used Simplicef and Cephalexin with good results for allergic dogs with yeast infections (Malessezia). I have used Clavamox with dogs that had tail infections that weren't caused by allergy or yeast.

Baytril has knocked out most UTIs that I have dealt with. Pseudomonas (a bacteria seen in pneumonia and secondary skin infections) is a very drug-resistant bacteria, but it does respond to Orbax.

Of course, if the dog has more than one type of infection, with more than one type of bacteria, that complicates matters!

Neither

I hate Clavamox, its like peeing in the wind its crap. Doesnt work well anymore, its a old drug, takes to long to work and is just not effective IMO for a bulldog.

Simplicef, i have not seen good results with. They say its the same as cephalexin but time released, but i have not had good luck with it at all for any skin issuses.

Skin issues i stick with regular cephalexin

sickness i use zithromax and baytril, i believe hit it hard kill it and move on.

I have used both for several issues.

I have used Clavamox for UTI's in two dogs and also an ear infection on one. Simplicef for UTI's...not sure what else it is used for.
