What to do?

We just got our 1st Bulldog. She is 3 yrs old and not spayed. She gets along great with my 4 yr old spayed Boxer. She does not get along with my 1 yr old neutered male. We just rescued the male Rottie 3 months ago. He had aggresion issues at first, but has not been aggresive for over a month. We did introduce them on a walk and the two walked together well. Yesterday my husband thought it would be a good idea to walk the bulldog into our fenced yard with the other dogs there. Everything was ok until they looked at eachother and all hell broke loose. The Rottie attacked the Bulldog and was trying to drag her away from my husband. I told him this was a bad idea and to never do this again. The Bulldog is ok. She has a puncture wound on her and a few scratches, it could have been much worse.

I am now keeping the Boxer and Rottie together and the Bulldog seperate. When one is outside the other is inside, or one is upstairs, the other down stairs. I don't know what to do. Since there was a fight will they be enemies forever? I thought male and female dogs ussually get along? How do I get them to get along? I am the pack leader, not them! Should I just keep them seperated forever with no interaction? Thank you for your response, it is greatly appriciated.

Not ready to give up

I'm not ready to give either dog up. I have a dog behavioralist coming out on Friday. The Rottie is not aggresive towards me or the kids or even my fm Boxer, they are bffs. My rottie seems to only get defensive when another dog growls at him first. Thank you for your views.

If you plan on keeping the Bulldog, which at this point

I would recommend rehoming her, for her own safety, you need to seek the assistance/advice of a trainer/behavior consultant. On the front page of this site, there is a link to APDT, there you can locate someone to help you.

I wish you luck.

I agree with Lynn about the bully girls safety.

You might want to re home her as soon as possible or get the rotti out of the picture by re homing it.. if you keep the rotti, then DO NOT trust it ever again with any small dog no matter what. That was not a good response to have to any other animal and frankly I would not trust the rotti in my home again especially if you have any small kids. Just my opinion:-)

Separation management always fails at some point. Someone will forget to shut a door all the way or will not realize another dog is in the backyard and will let the wrong dog out at the same time as the others you are trying to keep apart.....it ALWAYS fails eventually and someone or something will get hurt because of it. Trust me, I know:-(
