weight gain for new pups

Is there a min and max amount of weight gain newborn pups should be gaining weekly or daily? Or is it any weight gain is better than none?

Javier

They're gaining....

about 1-2 oz every other day. It's amazing how these little ones grow so fast. I have been blessed and thank you for your responses.

Re: weight gain for new pups

Depending on the size of the litter and milk production, I believe they double birth weight in 10 days to 2 weeks. The occasional puppy might skip gaining once or twice for a day or two. Once the milk comes in and they get on track, they're gaining 1-2 oz. (and even sometimes more) a day.
Good luck and all good wishes.

Re: weight gain for new pups

The rule of thumb is 1 week- one pound..so for every week add a pound.
But take into consideration many are born at almost a pound or more and can loose up to 10% of thier body weight in the first 7-10 days of life. Any more than 10% of too much weight loss in a day is cause for alarm.
I had one pup who had alot of water on her and was 18oz at birth. She did not but a few ounces for the first 3 weeks of life. Not that is TOO much to loose and she became a horible nurser. So we had to tube feed.
I like to weight at least daily because weight loss is the first early sign of a fading puppy.
Hope all is well. Good luck with the puppies.
