We lost one of our little angels this morning.

I have no idea what happened to her. We have been supplementing the 5 littlest ones, but she was a big, seemingly healthy baby. She just stopped breathing! Nothing I did helped her so she crossed the bridge this morning. I am worried about the others, but they seem to be doing great. Has anyone else had this happen to a seemingly healthy baby? She was only 3 1/2 days old.

Thank you for your kind words. We did not notice any milk going

or any signs that she had milk coming from her nose . She looked normal, and everything looked great when we were cleaning them up after feeding. Now I am worried that they will all go somehow. I just keep checking on them all the time!

Sorry about the loss of your baby

More then likely she aspirated. If during a feeding milk went down the wrong way or else she refluxed (vomited) and mild went down the wrong way. I doubt it was something contagious so the rest of your babies should be ok. (Other cause could be a heart problem but usually that is preceded by several days of loss of color, decreasing activity and increasing difficulty breathing.)

Thanks Elaine, it is hard, but there is nothing to do but love t

more.

Sorry, Nikki, to hear of the loss

Its always a risk with them so young, not being able to know what is lacking internally. Hugs to your other babies.

We have the babies in a human incubator so the temps stay consta

Thank you so much. It is so great to talk to BDW people who truly understand

sometimes crap just happens

the more you do this the more happens and you will see.

Make sure you give Karo at each feeding to keep the sugar up, sometimes nursing will drop the sugar and they just freeze up. I lost 4 out of 6 this way, and almost lost one in another litter but he bounced back and was fine.

Hugs, its not easy.

Also some of the big fat ones, will suck so much they aspirate.

are your whelping temps up.....

make sure their not cold...double check your whelping temp....and make sure their peeing and pooping ok....
good luck...

My other tidbit of advice

is to watch for excess gas, and have the baby gas drops onhand if one or more 'gets fussy' after eating, or won't nurse long enough. There's so many many little things to think about with bulldog puppies. You're doing a good job, I know. happy.gif
