I tryed to do a search on this but the search is not working..
Ok, Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to get a new bulldog.
She is 8 months old, Her eyes have really been watering. They are always wet.
She came from another state so I wonder if she just needs to get use to her new surrounding or if she having allergies or if she my have entropion.
I took her to the vet and he said we will have to watch her eye's because he thought she could need that entropion (sp) surgery.
My questions are:
1. At what age should they have this surgery? (I didn't ask the vet.) I know there face's change so much the first few years..
2. Can you tell they have had surgery? Does it change the look of there eyes?
3. Any one have BEFORE and AFTER pictures??
Thank you in advance for all your info!
Karen
I advise you to consult an Opthamologist
There can be other problems with the eye that result in watering. Maizy had entropian which is when the lids roll in toward the eye causing the lashes to rub against the eye. She had surgery at about 10 months old. I knew she had a problem because she would blink her eyes a lot and hold them closed as if she were in pain.
Morgan had Distichia and her symptoms were the same. Distichia is where lashes grow wild and poke the eye. You may not be able to see these lashes with the naked eye. The lashes are either frozen or lasered off.
Allergies can also cause excessive watering. Also, allergies can cause the lids to swell which in turn can mimic entropian.
So my best advise is to get het checked out by an animal Opthamologist. In my experience, they don't charge anymore than a Vet would charge for the same services.

Just had 4 lids done on a rescue. Healed nicely. His lids all rolled in on his eyes causing irritation and green discharge. He squinted all the time. All better now. Healing took about 2 weeks.
I don't rescue animals because I want to feel better about myself, or morally superior to anyone. The best part of my life with animals is the humility they teach and the humanity the foster.
