Water break??

I have a bully expecting to have pups (8, oh no!!!) next thursday and this morning I went to checkup on her and noticed she had wet her blanket in the whelping box. Not a huge wet area but noticable. I noticed it looked different than an ordinary pee stain. It seemed to have a shiny/ oily look to it. So I touched it and yes even smelted it and it didn't smell like pee. I took her temp which was normal, no panting or her looking like she was in any discomfort. All day she seemed normal or should I say huge and her normal "when are these little guys coming out Face".
8 hrs later in a 70 degree room the water spot hasn't dried.?
Do dogs "water break"? I know they have discharge when pregnant but I'm just puzzled what this mightbe. Any thoughts?

My understanding...

would be that if her water did break, you would see puppies in 3 - 4 hours afterwards. So after 8 hours I'm assuming it's doubtful that her water broke. But I have no clue as to what it might be so someone else might be able to help you out.

Re: Water break??

Probably that was mucous and why it hasn't dried yet--normal. You should be taking her temp twice daily and watch her carefully for signs of labor. Good luck and all good wishes!
