The vet called this morning, Boo did regurgitate a little this morning one time which is a major improvement and he's on medications to control the reflux and make the sphincter stronger. They are still suspecting he has a hernia and since surgery are all booked, I've asked to hold off the endoscopy to do it on monday so the inflammation on his esophagus have time to heal and do surgery at the same time too so he only needs to be under anesthesia one time. I'm glad I brought him to the right vet and they are taking really good care of him.
Just read your post...
Yes, frequent regurgitation can further irritate the esophagus, but they may be giving him something for that. A histamine blocker (like pepcid, Tagamet, etc) and/or sucarafate (coats the area and acts like a chemical bandaid) spring to mind.
I also wonder of they are continuing the cerenia for nausea and vomiting?
Beaming good thoughts for BooBoo! Let us know how he is.

update 11/20
the nurse called and Boo regurgitate some food this morning and he's still on medications. I'm just concerned about his regurgitation, wouldn't that cause more damage to his esophagus from the stomach acid or the meds will help soothe it? I don't want him to be on a liquid diet because he needs to be strong if he needs the surgery. I'm visiting him Saturday at 5pm, do you have any suggestions to questions I should ask? I'd appreciate all input.
Thank you for hanging in there with me and Boo.

Relieved to hear you now know what is happening
Sending healing thoughts his way and that all will work out well.
well can give you the scoop on the PEOPLE side..lol
what makes it hard to swallow is the damage to the esopahgus and scaring of it.
I had this surgery done laproscopic and I had internal bleeding and had to open my up then and redo it..with a full front incision
then it came undone in time..seems to happen ..after soo many years
I had the last one done 3 years ago ..transthoriac this time..through the left side of my chest
they made the esophaugs longer
made a new valve
fixed up the hernia
I also had an ulcer on the esophagus
the biggest thing and this will happen with a dog too..........is that the meals after surgery have to be smaller. they use the stomach for the new valve in the esopahgus. so the stomach is smaller.
the dog mmight not be able to get sick again..as such. that is the one problem that I had...and a bloat is caused cause of the air that is coming back up the esopahgus..sorta thing.
I survived..
your dog will be much better after
the esopahgus needs to be taken care of..
this can and does lead to esopahgus cancer of which there is really no real treatment..
so best to get it done
that is what i was told anyhow..
I am sure that if you ask the surgeon is your dog has Gerd..he might say yes
that is the other term that is used for this..
gastro esopahugus reflux disorder
yes, 24 hrs care
sure gonna burn a big hole in my pocketbook but it will be worth every penny. I'm going to visit him this saturday.
i think so.
the vet described something like that when i googled, will ask the surgeon for sure when he calls on monday. I read that there is a chance that it can become undone and the symptoms would come up, there is also a chance of being bloated. What is weird is why did this pops up all of a sudden, he's 3 yrs old, never had a problem besides can't eat dry kibbles ever since he was a puppy. the vet did say that it's common with the bulldgo breads due to their breathing mechanism.
Well
It sounds as though he's getting the care he needs. Poor little guy.
Hope he continues to hold his own (and his food!).

are they doing a nissen fundolopication on him..??
I was just wandering. I had the same symptoms as your dog there and that is what they did to me..lol. that is why I am asking.
the purpose of the surgery is to strengthen the value and repair the hernia.
just curious is he is having the same surgery
