Submitted by lomeli2356 on April 20, 2010 - 11:22pmWe have 12 day old puppies that all weigh over a one and a half pounds each and are doing well. My question is when they nurse they keep pulling on the tit i have checked to see if there is still milk and there is im not sure what to think? They are now fedding every three to four hours and maybe think they are just really hungry? they all feed for about 25-35 mins each time.

when they pull they are sucking and pulling to get the milk down
how often are you feeding the puppies? Is mom eating enough food? She should eat after each feeding, and drink plenty of water. This is how her milk will come in.
Some do not get good suction, so they will pop off and on during feeding. As long as they suck a good 10 to 15 minutes are are getting full and gaining wt that is good.

by pulling do you mean.. they pull their head back quickly
and then release and repeat? If so this is normal.. this is how they get mom's milk to let down.. sometimes you will see them do this several times during a feeding.. watch closesly and you will then see them all start sucking contently after milk lets down.
