We switched Tug to Natural Balance duck and potato to see if that helps with his allergies. He doesn't like it at all. Anybody know of anything we can put on the food to make it more desirable to him?

when I transitioned the dogs here to a different food.. I just used a bit of cheese for a couple of meals and that was all it took they were fine after that..
the other thing to do is try another variety of the same food I WOULD get some sample packages..and try a few of them and see how dog takes to them one flavour is sometimes better then the others most dog food companies carry samples..would the try verses going and getting a whole bag the dog does not care for..

a dog should ENJOY its food, should look forward to eating. Of course they won't starve to death, but not many living beings will for that matter. But what do you want for your dog? There are so many types of food out there, what is the real benefit of forcing your dog to eat stuff he hates or face starvation? My dogs LOVE mealtimes. We switched their food to something more palatable to them, and now they hop and wiggle and are ecstatic when they see their meal coming, and that's how I want them to feel about their meals. And we did manage to do so without feeding them junk food that would have negated the benefits of the healthy food we switched to. Would they survive on food they hate? Yes, they would. Is that the life I want for my dogs? No, it's not.

it cracks me up when people post about how thier dogs wont eat this or that. Dogs are damn smart! They know that if they refuse and smirk up at you with disgust or walk away you will surely entice them with something they desire...something yummy...some additive etc. table scraps, cheese, yogurt or whatever. Put nothing on thier food if your trying to eliminate the possibility of allergies. A dog will eat when he is hungry. They WILL NOT STARVE themselves to death, trust me. If he refuses to eat for a day or two and wants to be stubborn- so be it. but i can say with 99% certanty thnat he will eventually eat his food!
if they nit pick at the food so be it. Ofen this is thier way of transitioning to a new food. Dogs are much smarter than we ever give them credit for. A dog may choose to eat it slower than normal becasue the transition is causing them to have an upset tummy. So by eating smaller portions they are able to tolerate this new food until they fully adjust.
I use that too and it works..great...also buy some samples and t

the flip side to that way of thinking is

when she first came home
a sprinkle of grated cheese....
even the sickest of my dogs will eat for grated cheese...
What I do...
You can mix a little vanilla yogurt or cottage cheese in it.
Sometimes I just sprinkle a little Parmisan Cheese on it.

Re: Tug doesn't like his new food!
