Tuffy post cherry eye photos!

Good evening! Thanks again for everyone's support and I wanted to let you know Tuffy is home safe and sound. When he first got home he was a little bit out of sorts and starved (he couldn't eat all day) but now he's back to his old self and so happy to be home. He just wants to snuggle, give licks and eat. His eyes look 100% better in my opinion. The vet said that the gland from the first eye that popped was unsalvagable so the repositioning would have been pointless. The other gland maybe could have been saved but I'm just glad the whole ordeal is over. His left eye is a little bit red and swollen but he says that'll go down in a few days and we are applying antibiotic ointment. In my opinion both eyes look great and I am one happy camper. I'm no expert but I think the vet did a terrific job! Here are the before and after photos. Let me know what you think!

Re: He looks great and also do not let anyone say he will now ge

Helen , you said a mouthful there . I now have a dog that has dry eye and never had a cherry eye removed and I have had cherry eyes removed and they never got dry eye .
A friend of mine has a vet who will NOT cut them and does a terrible job at tucking and had to redo her girl 3 times ........now that is rediculous !!!
Some vets , i swear just want to rape us with there prices and dont think of the animal .

Kim , you boy looks wonderful .

Latest Tuffy pix (more realistic)

Good evening! Thanks again for all the supportive posts. Here are a couple of new Tuffy photos. The original was a little deceptive because of the flash. Sometimes his eyes are more bloodshot than other times. These pictures were taken at night and from these images it's clear there is still some redness, swelling and red veiny lines. For some reason his eyes get more bloodshot at night or after a stressful event. We have a followup at the vet tomorrow...but I'm still pretty happy with what I got!

This one is late at night after a lot of playing. A lot redder than it normally is.

Thank you again everyone!

I appreciate all your kind, supportive words (and warm compliments) about my Tuffster. Your support has gotten me through a very nerve-wracking time!!

Thanks for saying that Helen!

His left eye is still kind of red but the vet says that's because that cherry eye was newer and had more blood supply but that should go down soon. In any event, I'm just glad to see his beautiful eyes again! And I appreciate you sharing your story. Sounds like you have a lot of experience with bullies. After doing extensive reading and research I think you are right about the whole dry eye thing. I think the eye opthamalogist was just saying that he'd get eye ulcers, dry eye and potentially go blind as a scare tactic. A lot of bulldog literature, my breeder and regular vet pretty much reiterate what you are saying. Dry eye apparently is common with bulldogs anyway. I've spoken to my vet about monitoring his eyes and we will keep a close eye on them and deal with dry eye if it comes about. No sense worrying incessantly about it...!

He looks great and also do not let anyone say he will now get dr

female , Judy never had a cherry eye in her whole life , no eye ops and she developed dry eye then I had several over the years that had the glands snipped out and most of them never had dry eye, so it is a crap shoot IMHO.
