I live in Los Angeles and they have people that can clean your dog's teeth without putting them under. It is becoming very popular and a much safer way. It costs me around $80 and I do it once a year. She just takes my boy in the bathroom and comes out about 20 minutes later. I would try lookin into it depending upon where you live.

Prices will vary from region to region. Where I work it's $280, includes blood work, 2 dental x-rays, cleaning, anesthesia, a single extraction, and take home meds if needed. You can expect to pay anywhere from $100 - $300 +/- depending on where you live. But find out what is included in that cost. Some include the cleaning and anesthesia, some meds and bloodwork etc. Xrays may be additional or part of the package. Keep in mind that double root teeth will cost more to extract than single root when you get a quote that you need extractions. General cleanings are good to do about once a year but you need to be using preventative to the tarter in the first place and especially after you have a cleaning.
I brush the teeth of my dogs (and cat) every other day with a toddler toothbrush and some CET Pet toothpaste. They love it. I started young and it's part of their routine. There are great dental rinses and wipes you can get as well that will help too.

and another one at about 7 or 8 yrs old. Beyond 8yrs I hesitate to use optional anesthesia but if I knew my present and last bitch would live until 12 or 13, I would have done one more cleaning! Cost will vary but runs about $100, which includes the dental and anesthesia...extractions if needed are extra...I don't have any 'loose teeth' pulled unless I'm convinced there is a gum infection underneath.

something you can try to on your own as well is get some baby face cloths and wipe off the teeth gotta be the terry ones.. they help cut down alot of tartar that is on the teeth too just an idea I do it for the pugs and the bullies here nothing but the dry cloth and it works good
I have not had my dogs teeth done yet since I am not fond of putting them under to do it...
