Tail pocket question

Hi All

Not sure if you remember me and Brutus, I have not posted in forever, I have so much going on right now, anyhoo I have a question about Brutus tail pocket

His tail is not tight, like I can clean in there, right now it is really red and cracked like dry skin and it is stinky, What is the best way to get it cleared up and is this a sign of anything else going on?

Usually I just wipe it out with a baby wipe and he goes on his way, this is the first time it has ever looked like this.

Thanks

Nikki

First I wash out tail pocket

using a wash cloth w/ gentle soap, then use clean wash cloth w/ water to get area clean to start w/ and get out yucky excess hair. If it has been smelly, I use ear powder that is designed to dry ear and kill yeast. After doing that a couple of times...well...the wash out is only once a week but the drying stuff is daily if I need it, then I switch to Gold bond...once it is all cleaned out and dry and has not been a problem, then desitin can go in to protect healthy skin.
Just my routine that seems to work.
Good luck...they can be really yucky. I also know of folks who have used vinegar in water for rinse to help with Ph balance of skin in pocket. I hate the smell of vinegar and avoid it if I can.

I use listerine and gold bond powder for a few days to

dry things out.. then apply desitin.

I use

Desitin after wiping with a baby wipe. My girl has a tail pocket and it is quite deep but has never gotten irritated or smelly. Hope this helps. Just my 2 cents.
