Tacrolimus vs Optimunne

Laylas Opthal appt is getting close . the dr mentioned to me that depending on her tear produstion, he may switch her to Tacrolimus . How many use it ? is it a drop or ointment ? can it be ordered online ? is it more expensive than optimunne ? hows it working for you ?

thanks !

Agree with Micki

I've used both, but last bulldog that needed medication had better response from the Tacrolimus than the Cyclosporine (Optimune), and I got the Tacro from the vet. Cost was still about $40/month (used BID).

Re: Tacrolimus vs Optimunne

It is depending on the amount of tear production. The Optimmune is less expensive than the Tacrolimus. We use both here...the Optimmune for our 11-1/2 yr. old who developed dry eyes about 3 years ago, and the Tacrolimus for our 8 yr. old who has one severely dry eye and has been using this for about 2 years now. I get written prescription for the Optimmune and buy from KVVet, and our vet takes care of sending the prescription to the compounding pharmacy who sends the Tacrolimus as I order it.
