Thursday is getting closer and my bully kiko will be going through tail pocket surgery.
The vet will be working on removing the deep infected folds and abcess skin pushing against the actual tail. heres a picture:
You can see abcess skin surrounding the upper part of the tail pushing against it. and he will also be removing the deep fold beneath the tail. according to the vet, removing the tail will not be necessary as the problem is the skin pushing against the tail leaving no area for air circulation.
i am very hopeful this will solve the problem. what do you all think about the procedure?
the thing that has me very nervous and scared is during the surgery.
it will be kiko's first time having surgery, or being put under anesthesia. it will also be my first time having my bully go through that and i am dying of anxiety. ive heard bulldogs are a high risk while under anesthesia, and although ive confirmed with the vet using isoflurane and no ACE, im still nervous. I am sure the vet is very experienced,as he works closely with a local french bulldog rescue, and seems to be well informed with bulldogs.
the thing i fear the most, is a complication Adminsing, and losing my kiko.
i am fearing that so much that sometimes i think twice about the surgery for the simple reason of fear of my bully being under anesthesia.
i hope some of you can just give me any words, experiences, or information that can make me be less nervous.
Thanks in advance!
I agree
I agree with Ealine too. My bully has had three surgeries and he is only 15 months old. Everytime, I have had them write down the size tube they used and no ACE. He has done wonderfully, I know it's nerve racking, keep yourself busy during his surgery, don't just sit and wait, because it will seem like time is standing still. I'm sure with what you said about your vet, he will be fine. Good luck and remember this is a positive thing for him!

trachea tube size, agree with Elaine
Whenever I have a dog put under I ask the Tech to write into the dog's record the size trachea tube they used. Also I ask my puppy buyers to do this when they have their dog spayed/neutered and phone me with the number. It helps me as a breeder know where I'm going with all pups in a litter - not just the ones I keep myself.

He should do fine...
The surgery is "cosmetic" with, of course, medical benefit to your dog. There's actually a higher risk of complications if the tail were removed, so taking away some folds should be no problem...just need to keep the area clean while healing. If this vet (and his staff) are experienced with brachycephalic breeds of dog they should have no problem with Kiko. When you take him in on Thurs morning (nothing to eat or drink after dinner Wed) ask the technician to record what size trachea tube they use on him...might as well get some sueful info regarding his airway size too.
